Any MK7 owner's able to recommend a good quality, reasonably priced set of car mats?

I just picked up a set from Mocks garage. They’re €38 and a good fit with a nice carpet on them https://www.micksgarage.com/d/car-mats/volkswagen/volkswagen-golf/golf-vii-2012-onwards/products/1592131-10585/prestige-tailored-car-floor-mats-for-volkswagen-golf-7-2012-onwards

I think the VW tailored ones are only €40 odd?

Pretty sure when I was in the dealers last week they were closer to €100

Yeah, couldn't buy official VW mats from a dealer, need to sell off a child for that.

Are you looking for carpet or rubber ones (better for winter for sure!)?

The front set are only about €45 from the dealer for the rubber ones, or at least were when I bought them a couple of years back. I'd always go OEM before cheaper ones anyway. The good aftermarket ones are as much is not more than OEM as well.

Can anyone think what would cause all the windows and sunroof to open fully?

I know you can press and hold the unlock button on the key fob and that will do the trick, but assuming I didnt do that, what else would cause it? The car was still locked, but all windows and sunroof open. Really weird.

    162 Golf 7R

The keys were not in the car - they have been here beside me on the table all the time. I cant imagine I sat on them and hit the unlock for 10 seconds.

    Thanks,
    Muppet Man

Yeah just double checked paid €46 for a front set of rubber ones and €55 for a front set of carpet ones for ours from a dealer.

Did you see the shocks yourself?

VW shocks particularly have a tendency to "sweat" a little oil when new, which will leave a damp mark just around the top of the body of the shock, running an inch or two down, usually it's spotted by dry dust/ dirt stuck to it.

It's more often the case that a dealer will spot a small sweat and deem it acceptable and not necessary to replace the shock, where as some smaller outfits will refer to it as an active leaking/ burst shock and upsell you a set of shocks.

This link isn't great but it gives you an idea. The theory is simple enough though, if the body of the shock isn't wet, it isn't leaking.

    http://www.vwgolf.org/leaks_at_shock_absorbers-1838.html

Cheers for the info TFB, I asked a friend to take a look at the brake pads for me, he spotted the issues with the shocks. I have no reason to doubt him, he is an experienced VW mechanic.

Anyway car booked in for next week and will see what the main dealer will make of it.

Am I right in saying the the high beam assist camera can't be coded for anything? I've read mixed posts regarding coding basic lane assist but I think this is the bigger sign recognition/adaptive headlight camera?

Yes you need the advanced camera for traffic sign recognition, etc.
The headlights themselves and probably other bits of hardware are different too in cars with adaptive headlights / lane assist.

I think mine has the adaptive headlights (lights look up and down when you star tthe engine and are cornering enabled), is it then possible/cheap to add lane assist and signage detection too?

No. Neither cheap nor possible (without serious expense / work / hassle).

Dynamic headlights "trim" the main beam, you can effectively drive with your main beams on all the time without dazzling oncoming traffic. The car trims the part of the light that would dazzle others.

It is / was a 8-900 euro option... not even on the official spec sheet... virtually no Irish cars would have it... only those where the original owner dug around the specs and specifically requested it from VW.

Works very well too, in 3 years I've never been flashed once driving with full lights on.

On a dark road you can see the box of darkness that the lights put oncoming cars into, kinda cool.

Which I assume is different again to the auto full headlights that switch on and off when they see another car?

Yes that’s “basic” high beam assist.

What is high beam assist like on Vw group cars? I have it on my Opel Zafira but I rarely use it. Occasionally on long trip at night if I'm tired but it's usually too slow to react. Still quicker than your average dosey driver who needs to see the other driver dip before they do though.

They always come back on when they should but I'd always dip much quicker than auto lights. Meeting a car on a bend I'd have anticipated dipping my lights and do it the last second. The high beam assist takes that extra second to dip.

They don't dip either when you start catching up on a car on the road. I've never been ignorant enough to see how close to the car I'd need to get before dimming.
I'd always dip as soon as I can see another's cars lights plenty don't though till they're nearly on top of you. Auto dimming rear view mirror helps with that a lot.

Have to agree with all that. I had a Golf with high beam assist and never warmed to it for reasons above. The only way to turn it off is move the lights from Auto position to on meaning you lose that fuctionality.

Didn't know it was linked on VW it's separate on the Zafira. You have to do a quick double pull of the high beam to turn it on.

Nope can turn it off on mine, there’s an indicator light to say it’s in our off on the dash. Press it out one to torn it on, again to torn it off or override it. Pull it towards yourself to turn it off permanently

Works well on country roads where the lights of another car are picked up just before rounding a corner

It also does pickup red taillights of cars informs and switches off

I think high beam assist is great. I've seen a few people say they've had issues with it but I find it very quick and responsive.

Only been flashed once which was recently in the morning. People don't tend to use high beams on my commute when there's a fair few cars on the roads but not an issue for me because I'm not constantly turning them on and off. Guess he didn't like seeing someone with them on for a split second...

I like it and use it all the time and just let it dip when it decides to even if I’d have dipped sooner had I been driving a car without it...the only time I really get flashed over it is on motorways as it isn’t great at seeing cars the other side of the barrier so if traffic is busy on the other side I sometimes disable it in this situation.

My biggest complaint is that on very narrow roads even in total darkness it won’t put on the full beams for some reason which I find a bit annoying.

So I've had this about a week now, intermittent. A quick google suggests the H7 bulb in the headlights. (The one that comes on when you're doing a turn under a certain speed.

However, both bubs seem to be fine. Maybe one's reading a higher than normal resistance or something...?

Is there anyway to determine which side? (without VCDS)

(I only bought the one bulb!)

Mine seemed to work fairly well for a long time, but I have noticed recently more people flashing me, so looks like they aren't dipping early enough and are blinding some oncoming drivers?

Where is the sensor for the assist? Perhaps its dirty?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,550 ✭✭✭JoeA3

It's in the windscreen, behind the rear view mirror, with the rain sensor, etc.

I think the driver who flashed me was just fussy. I'd say for the most part high beam assist turns off before you'd even have your finger on the switch. I do think it's because nobody else had high beams on that morning. It was a strange one alright. It turned off quickly as usual then he flashed me afterwards. Nothing up ahead on the road so it wasn't a friendly warning. Who knows!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,638 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

There have been a couple of times when my full beam just stayed on!

Must have been on a bend or something, confused the sensor.

But I do think autolights are a fantastic addition to a car, even though they might not work the very odd time.

Really like that colour, low mileage, looks very clean and priced pretty well.

    Is that Cumiskeys old place?

Yeah that’s a nice looking example. The colour is a bit marmite but it seems to suit the R.

Yeah that used to be Cumiskeys. It looks like one of his old salesmen is running that dealers now.
