I have been dealing with MABS and they have told me that the banks solicitor wants a letter from my doctor stating the nature of my illness .
The loan was taken out before I was I'll.
Are they able to request such personal information ?

MABS do very valuable work and have great experience of negotiating with creditors.

Assuming the debtor is seeking some relief because of illness it is imho reasonable to give details to the creditor

Agreed, it's common practice for banks to request such information. You have a contract with the bank, if MABS are involved you're likely looking for some form of relief from your debt, which involves altering your contract, whether that be short term or long term.

If you're stating that illness is the cause of an inability to maintain payments, or a contributing factor, the bank will seek proof of same.
