A large proportion of Radio Nova's current presenters have previously been involved with FM104 and/or 98FM: Colm Hayes, Marty Miller, Dee Woods, Ruth Scott, Pat Courtenay, Greg Gaughren and Liam Quigley.

That girl who sits in for Lucy on Fridays as well.

To address Fanadman's comment, "they got rid of". (it was my decision to wind up presenting NiteRock at Nova)

Drove down from Dublin in heavy traffic yesterday evening and had Nova from about 5.30 to 7. It was the best 90 mins of radio I’ve had in ages. Great music bit of chat bit of news sport and weather. To those of us stuck with spin SW and Beat Fm as alternatives to RTE/Newscotp it was manna from heaven. Thoroughly enjoyable👋👋

Well, it was always my show entilted NiteRock (presented & Produced by myself) until I was asked to change the name. My decision to move on followed shortly after that Max.

Either way, Nova's loss is DSFM's gain. :-)

Unfortunately I've decided not to continue presenting NiteRock with DSFM also Mikey. Xfm until the new year, few things happening then.

To remind us how Nova is heading they were letting us know that Andre Bochelli is preforming in the 3Arena tonight on their whats on guide. I'm sure he's very good at what he does, but on rock station , sorry forgot, guitar music station.
Have they ever played Airbourne, Wolfmother or The Answer?

They were only recently peddling the news that Pink is going to be playing an Irish date next year. It's only a matter of time before we're hearing the likes of her on the station.

Played? They wouldn't even have a clue who any of those bands are. Their hard rock/metal library extends no further than the Black Album (and only two of its tracks at that).

Well I've already heard Nina Nesbitt several times on the station, so I think the cracks are starting to show.

It's a real shame about the daytime stuff...Greg was playing some cracking stuff tonight...

I found Greg's move to evenings to be one of the more bizarre moves in the reshuffle, after Colm & Lucy began their reign of terror on the Nova airwaves. He held the mid morning/afternoon slot since the station's inception and was clearly popular among Nova's listenership. If memory serves me, he was even the first DJ to go live on air when the station launched in 2010.

What are you saying...he's more popular than Hayes...shock, horror...:)

At this stage, if you took a man whose diet consisted of only baked beans and Guinness, put him in front of the mic and told him to fart into it for four hours, he'd be more popular than Hayes and his crew :D

On a different note, I noticed they haven't posted a link to the Colm & Lucy podcast this week on their Facebook page. It figures, posting anything to do with that show generally attracts a flurry of negative comments. I can't help but wonder if the station's bigwigs are quietly beginning to realise that they have fumbled the ball with the Colm & Lucy experiment? They took a risk in steering the flagship show towards the casual listener and it doesn't appear to be yielding significant results. Who would have thought that the market is already saturated with options for the casual listener, meanwhile they're driving away their actual fans. I know it's wishful thinking to seriously ponder if someone is finally taking notice, but one can hope :D

Mr.Ego doesnt think that way, he's a winner in his own head no matter what sh1te he comes up with..as i've said he IS the big wig ,Branigan is no match for him..as for Greg ,it was a case of do what your told or you can join Mike Moloney etc.......Be prepared for even more mundane music and even more stupidity on nova..the home of the Lucy and Colm show....

Oh, undeniably, he's the big fish in a small pond who seems to be allowed to dictate with impunity. I'm curious to find out if he's an actual shareholder in the company or simply a senior employee. At least if it's the latter there is still some hope (as remote as said hope may be). I mean, they're trying to be a clone of FM104, but they're nowhere near 104's audience share because 104 is already there to cater for those listeners (and many similar stations). It's a flawed concept and it baffles me that the shareholders can't see this. Of course, if Hayes is one of them it makes perfect sense, as it's a vanity project over sensible business.

On the way up to Tesco I’m the car this morning with Nova on and what do they play? For Whom The Bell Tolls

I had to check the radio to make sure I wasn’t mistaken.

It was a few rare minutes of bliss from that station.

The spoken 'funny' promos before each commercial break are very annoying. I've asked this before here, but is it keith walsh from the 2fm breakfast show voicing them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,820 ✭✭✭FanadMan

    And now we get One!

He's played For Whom The Bell Tolls by mistake, meaning to play One

Posted this elsewhere but it ties in with what you're saying

ad for the breakfast show in the cinema last night. No mention of music, no mention of rock, no mention of escaping pop music, the ad was to try and get people to switch over on the basis that Colm and Lucy were the hosts, So that's the plan folks, Nova has two "big names" and that's the selling point

Also the ad was as painful as diy root canal
