Is it me or do those who espouse liberal views seem a bit dim-witted?

I agree with your point. As long as we don’t get some ultra right wing party coming out of the woodwork.

Paddy Power seems to be down or crashing.

I can't log in, and it's not displaying Irish politics page correctly.

    Edit scratch that, I'm in.

    Yes, he did.

Well he lost the popular vote comfortably...so if it was translated to our presidential election he would have 99.99999999999% lost.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,834 ✭✭✭✭listermint

quite simply this is a Brexit style protest vote with zero consequences as the role of president is purely ceremonial in ireland.

    Protest against what.

    Numptys.

Why do Irish people in one of the freeist nations on earth feel the need to give a protest vote.

    Coddled bunch of morons.

Is it just an exit poll that's coming in in 10 mins? How large will it be? I would'nt expect any results to be in until the morning?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,079 ✭✭✭C__MC

What ever happens, Higgins reputation has been tarnished

Yeah, nothing like a 40% winning margin to put someone in their place.

As someone else pointed out, people have learned nothing from the last 100 years. The wilful ignorance and condescension toward the majority of people has been in full swing for far too long.

The swing back against that is going to be monumental. When some people start wringing their hands about "how did we get here?!", the writing was on the wall for blooming ages.

I voted Casey, it wasn't a protest vote for me anyway, I never liked Michael D Higgins. Casey was the best candidate for me, simple as that.
