There are zero candidates worth voting for in this election imo. I'll either spoil my vote, or vote for Freeman only that it may give Pieta house some publicity if she gets a few votes.

Wasn't Dev 90-something when he was president? No one had objections back then...

The Queen was going full tilt until a few years back and she is much older. Don't see age as an issue myself.

He used to throw in the ball in All Ireland finals and then helpers had to hurry him off before he got clattered. Was near blind at the end

Was that not a local priest or bishop? Recall seeing old black and white footage of that.

I voted for him last time round, he’s performed flawlessly.

What did you make of his praise for Castro?

Pieta house is a wonderful cause and she is the only candidate who might be out of pocket, realistically, for the campaign, if she doesn't reach the quota. The rest can easily afford to blow €300K on a campaign.

Have the Russians hacked this thread yet?

Is Seán Gallagher too bald a basis for not voting him as president? Well yes actually it is. That and he resembles a conniving thumb.

I reckon Casey has a good 95% of voters behind him at this stage.

Hes old of course but only 77. He may well have over another decade left if he looks after his health, I dont see why it matters how old a candidate is really

Cant see him even getting 5% in the actual election.

Will you be prepared to acknowledge how wrong you were after the result ?

I don't expect him to win, but he will get more than 5%. Unlike the other candidates he just says what he thinks and feels. This has resonated with a lot of voters, (at least anyone that I've been talking to).
There are a lot of parrellels with the Trump campaign. I don't think that Trump expected to win the presidency when he started his campaign, so he was not constrained by the usual rules of the election game, i.e. 'Dont offend anyone'. So he just blurted out whatever he thought or believed irrespective of who was offended. He was probably as surprised as the rest of us when he discovered that many people agreed with him.
Don't be surprised if Casey does very well in the election.

If he gets more than 5% of course I will acknowledge the fact.
I just doubt very much that those who actually go out to vote will cast their vote in favour of bigoted neo nazi like casey.

    Spreading hate and division!
    Targeting the most marginalized!

It highlights how many people have been negatively affected by the traveller community be that robbing , intimidating , refusing to work , fraudulent claims etc etc
The people of Ireland have had enough .

Pretty sure Miggledy Higgins is the only one of them with a song written about him. And a children's storybook. That's enough for me, he's got my vote :)

They have had enough and are not willing to do anything meaningful about it. What wilöl happen if Casey becomes president?
    Erm, bugger all.

How an out and out socialist like Higgins suddenly starts living the high life...government jets, expensive hotels..salary huge...

It just demonstrates that socialism is utterly flawed.

Eventually, the pigs become more and more like humans, and their slogan changes to "four legs good, two legs better."

    Completely and utterly.

But hey don't forget - if we don't buy into the left's bollocks, we're Hitler. And Goebbels.

    I'm voting for Casey!

He hasn't backed down on his comments and has shown a backbone. Something that has been missing for quite a while in Ireland.

And another thing is...in the past 5 days everybody I have spoken to literally is now voting for Casey (at least that's what they say). Given that all of those people I spoke to have paid tax/paying tax. They also all had stories about negative experiences with Travellers. The straw that broke the camels back is the cohort of them wanting stables in a new housing estate.

What about the homeless people, single mothers, genuine refugees?

If he becomes president? Hmm let me think? What about the exit polls and sending a clear message to the government that the new president spoke out on a topic which is contentious.

Also, Vradkar has zero right to tell people not to vote for Casey!

Living the high Life? That man is run off his feet. Just think of the hours and travel and social funtions he is expected to do, where he is mostly the center of attention, he has to entertain, he has to be friendly, he has to put across difficult points to other heads of state and officials without offending or causing controversy, he has to study bills going through the houses. And at his age I'll be lucky to dress myself and plank in front of the TV.
PS I think he is probably Getting Abit old for the modern role of president, and should wind down Abit.
The attacks on Higgins about living the high Life and expenses are a complete red herring and in some ways more worring than the perceived view of the Montrose bubble about trumpian tactics.

While I welcome politicians telling the truth, and not avoiding the truth, there is no way 95% of people will support Casey.

I welcome him highlighting the massive welfare dependency in Ireland.

But I also want focus put on tax evasion by high earners.

I'll vote Casey in the full and certain knowledge that he won't win.
