Probation when moving to CS from PS?

A friend who's been an AP for the past 4 years in the Public Service has just been offered an AP role in the Civil Service. He's transferring across, basically, but he's worried about the probation period. He's secure where he is now, he passed his PS probation no problem. Can that factor come with him to the CS? Or does he have to go through probation again? And what happens if he isn't successful? Does this ever happen? Should he look to be seconded from his PS body to the CS role for the duration of the probation?

And secondly, what about 'marking time' on the payscale. He's been appointed on a panel - does this apply to him

    TIA

    RS

I went the other way , Public Sector to Civil Service and had to do a years probation . I would have been unemployed if I failed it , although you would want to be useless not to pass. I also had to "Mark Time" , but in my case it was until my salary which I was allowed bring across matched up with the new Payscale which was 17 Months
Sorry just read your friend is going the same way as me ...
