07 Santa Fe 2.2 Deisel Engine Failure

    Hi Folks,

Hoping I can get some help on here,
I have 07 Hyundai Santa Fe that just cut out and wouldnt start last Saturaday, had it towed to the local garage and today they tell me" the engine in gone" ('best to say goodbye to it' was his exact words)
The history here is we only bought the car last year, had it serviced and checked by the main Hyundai dealer who gave it the all clear, have since had an injector replaced, one more service and it passed the NCT 2 months ago.

The local garage explained 'the timing belt is turning but not the engine so somthing is gone in the engine'
I trust the local lads but somthing doesnt add up, when we cut out, I couldnt get it started, but I could get the car to move by trying the iginition whilst in-gear.
so my question is really if the engine was completely gone and not engaging the timing belt anymore would it still move while trying the iginition in-gear?
Should I get a second opionion?
    any and all advice welcome?

    Thanks in advance folks!

The timing belt won't affect it moving in gear using the starter motor, its hard to say what the damage is but may be snapped camshaft, Conrod etc which would render the engine scrap

So lads now that it sounds like the engine is fecked - Im open to suggestions as to next steps?

A friend is suggesting getting an engine reconditioning crowd to look at it, has anyone on here done this before?
Is it worth the hassle or what does one normally do with a car in this situation?

    Thanks in advance . .

The 950 road tax kills the value of an 07 , time to move on as the lads a
Have said. Unless you buy a later damaged one the same colour, and use your body panels to repair the later one , however crashed stuff seems to make more than good cars sometimes.
