Breaffy need to get Aidan involved more.

    Lacking penetration up front.

Many here have commented Ryan O Donoghue is good enough for inter county football.

Eoin no relation had a good game on the Doc.

    Yip

Has Diarmuid kicked the winner with his ciotog?

Better team won but referee bottled a free/penalty at the death.

Thought Alan Dillon might get MOTM but Cillian was outstanding.

O'Sheas decision to kick that free at the death was beyond madness.

Yeah I thought that too but more to the point Tubber were smarter overall as an attacking force.

Not much to choose overall between Castlebar, Breaffy and Ballintubber. Mitchels would probably have been the best bet to go deep in the national competition though.

    Agree with the above.
Wonder how Belmullet will fare?. They've got a handy bunch of young players there, I'd certainly see them being able to hold their own in Senior next year, provided Emigration doesn't take its usual toll as it usually does in that region of the country.

Westport Ladies Bet St Mary's of Tulsk yesterday in an Intermediate Connacht semi final yesterday! They go on to meet St Brendans of Galway in the final.

Definitely the cuter of the two sides. Breaffy incredibly naive for a team that has been knocking for a while now. Ballintubber certainly know how to win their frees and why wouldn't you with Cillian around.

What Aidan was at, kicking that free off the ground from an impossible angle, with minutes to go....I'll never know. How Diarmuid slotted it over from 40 yards with his bad foot under serious pressure... I guess that pretty much sums up the difference between the sides.

There may be a case for saying Breaffy have the better individuals overall but Tubber are by far the better team. Breaffy looked clueless at stages, holding the ball up and not a single runner making a move. When Tubber slowed it up they had men running off shoulders and had no problem going into contact and winning a free.

Just a little bit cuter, and better, than Breaffy.

I sadly wasn't able to go to the match, or watch it on MayoGaatv so out of interest, how far off the mark was O'Sheas kick?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,131 ✭✭✭NabyLadistheman

It was more a case of why is he taking this on as opposed to the execution. They were only a point behind down at that stage, he had to go short. in fairness to O'Shea he was Breaffy's main attacking threat. Unfortunately for them he was not involved in the game as much he was needed.

As good as Cillian was he dropped a free into Hennelly's hands just before Diarmuid kicked the winner, no mention of this because they went onto win. Breaffy badly missed Irwin in the full-forward line. Beggars belief that he is in London & not with Breaffy for the championship. He certainly won't be in Horan's reckoning over there. It was a bad miss by Conor to level it up.

Overall Ballintubber much the better side. They were excellently coached & knew there game plan inside out. Should have been home & hosed long before the last minute shenanigans. Delighted for Cillian & Diarmuid, great to see the performance levels form those two

Very off the mark. The way he approached the free was all wrong which isnt surprising since he doesnt take frees. Tommy Reilly was asking for it and Hennelly was on his way up to kick it and was told to go back. It was a foolish decision and one that costed them a chance of a replay in my opinion.

TBH I don't think there's much of a case for saying Breaffy have the better individual players.

Aidan was very much a peripheral figure in the contest,Tommy O Reilly should have taken that free.

Twas a bad miss by Conor O Shea beforehand.

Breaffy should still have had a free in at minimum at the death.

Not to mention Hennelly missing 3 out of 4 kicks from distance.

Not really much point. They'll get the 'personal and sensitive issues' response that everybody else got.

Tubber also very shrewd in defence, knew exactly when to deploy the old 'professional foul' to ensure Breaffy didn't get a sniff of another goal. Not sure their man deserved to be black-carded but I'd say Vincie was getting sick of dishing out the yellows to no discernible effect.:P

Belmullet's first intermediate final win since 1974.

Still haven't watched it back but by all accounts this is a very good Belmullet team.

Anybody put me in the picture as to whom Johnny Donoghue's father is?Former great.

Very tough on Liam O Malley, his sixth final loss.

Tourlestrane up next for Ballintubber in the quarter final, very winnable.

Corofin cast a long shadow over their long term aspirations.
