Going to be an issue for the Saorview Connect box.

Only if it's usb 2.0, usb 3.0 allows for 5Gbps giving it plenty of bandwidth

    It is usb 2.0!

    It is usb 2.0!

The Amiko Alien 2 really struggles with 2x 1080i recordings but that has a poor CPU and was known to be low on ram. The Connect would need decent hardware and would need to be optimised to be really efficient if it were to handle it.

Is usb 3.0 more expensive/difficult to employ?
    It seems a strange decision.

It shouldn't be but it's more likely they are using old tech that's already available.

The Tiviar is hardware from 2013

Still acting up, I'll reflash when I get a chance - thanks!

Did that work? I really don't want to have to do that.

Doesn't really matter I suppose anyway, if a channel moves I'll just do a rescan manually and move that channel from all over to favourites? Bit more work but same thing, i think.

Just tried it there and have the same issues after the flash. The only thing it could be is that I use a 64GB usb key to flash the box and it requests 8GB or less

How do I do an update channel scan? Thanks.

Going to attempt setting up my own bouquet then.

What's the difference between performing a channel scan in:

Setup > Service searching > AutoBouquetsMaker

    And

    Setup > Service searching > AutoBouquets (28.2E)

They both seem to pull in different channel lists but neither of them have a working Channel 4 (only Channel 4 HD in favourites works)

    Thanks

Neither will. This is not a channel scan, it's just a bouquet update. Autobouquetmaker pulls the Freesat listing. Autobouquets pulls the Sky listing. Neither has Channel 4 HD in their lineup.

You'll need to do it manually. There are lots of channels available listed in all channels that are in neither listing. To get a new list of all channels you'll need to do a full satellite scan on 28.2 with clear before scan enabled. This scan will not upset your bouquets

Is it easy to create a personal bouquet for those channels like Ch4 HD that are not in Freesat or Sky bouquets, and use both Freesat and personal bouquets to populate the channels list?

Yes. This is what favourites is for. Both Autobouquetmaker and Autobouquets leave the favourites bouquet untouched.

Do the updates to channel frequency in the Freesat bouquet get reflected in this Favourites bouquet? If yes, then all is good :)

If not then it would not achieve what I had in mind ...... which was to have the minimum number of channels in the personal bouquet which would need manual intervention if/when channel frequency changed.

Unless of course you meant to have only the 'extra' or missing channels in the favourites bouquet and continue to use the Freesat bouquet at the same time.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification but Channel 4 SD doesn't work for me in the FreeSat UK Entertainment bouquet - I have performed a channel scan and ran AutoBouquets

The Favourites bouquet doesn't update, it's left alone by Autobouquets and Autobouquetmaker

What region are you using for Freesat? Mine works set to NI

I have it set to BBC Northern Ireland region - must be a signal issue for me. Weird because all of the other channels work including C4 HD in the favourites bouquet

Do a full satellite scan. Delete the bouquet then run Autobouquetmaker again

    Hi guys,

Have been really enjoying and grateful for all the advise to date. However after a power surge it looks like the box is bricked. There was a mcb tripped today from a short in a plug and when I reset the breaker the box came back on but is stuck on

    RUN Alpha +

and will not go any further. I have tried flashing the image on this thread (tks THHB) and nothing. Tried flashing open atv on its own and still nothing.

Anything else I should/ could be doing please????????

Why do people not Use surge protection to protect electronics?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭Heiser

Hi got the box Friday and I'm loving it so far.

The Picons aernt working for me, I put the USB key into the box, then took it out and put it in my laptop. Unzipped the Picons folder and put it on the USB. Called the folder Picon. Restarted box and still they're not showing. What else do I need to do?

Also, I added a favourites folder and set it up in the order I like. Everything was fine but now my Freesat channels don't show what program is on. So with RTE, Virgin etc I can see the channel list and what's on the channel beside the channel name, but I can't see what's on the Freesat channels. But if i flick through the freesat channels, whats on shows beside the channel name if I return to my favourites folder. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Most surge protectors offer so little protection you are better spend your money on an extended warranty or insurance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,960 ✭✭✭greasepalm

I like to have my circuits covered with inputs of power cleaned and protected, sat and cable feeds protected from lightning strikes, lan also protected.
How long is extended warranty for 5 years max as most of my stuff is possibly 8 years.
Power surges are common so what other things could possibly blow,tv,freezer, cooker and many others and hope insurance covers them.

I would expect any necessary surge protection to be specified, and implemented at product level i.e. incorporated into the device. It should not be necessary for a consumer to worry about.

Lighting strikes are a whole different matter, and I agree with you, of real concern with external aerials or dishes. This can only be addressed at installation level. Having said that, there is only so much that can be done. If the lighting strike is too close, it will blow electronics equipment, end of. (I say this having extensive knowledge, and industry experience, in this area.)

A number of years ago a sub station went mad and blew many things and fried them in Cabinteely area and smell of burning all around
Still like to have some protection on items. There does seem to be more posts of items bricked due to power issues.

Nearly finished finalising my setup BUT I can’t see how to add favourites...
I can jump around the various bouquets, but some, in the house, prefer the way the old Ariva worked and there are 5 of them in the house and just one Tiviar. The Arive is set up as Saorview on channels 1-9 then BBC / ITV etc. up to channel 35 then a few other favourites up to channel 80 and that was it.. so it was easy to memorise favourite channels.. RTE 1 was No 1 and RTE 2 no2. Channel 4 was number 11 and BBC 2 was number 14… etc…

Finally the white arc of light on the front of the unit are very bright and distracting, can they be dimmed, or better turned off.?
