it invalidates any legitimate questions that might be asked by turning it into a racial issue. quite a brilliant move in the age of identity politics tbh

There is a very prolonged and detailed conversation going on on the national broadcaster right now.
I am not hearing any questions 'invalidated' tbh.

What sweeping statement, do you mean where he suggested everyone should be treated equally. Hardly a hate crime.
Travellers are travellers own worst enemies. Young travellers if they don't want to be tarred with the same brush as you put it should start calling out the crap they see in their own community.

I am not necessarily defending anyone, I am calling out this idiot. He made the statement, he did not only say "everyone should be treated deifferently" and if he did, how did he single out a group??

    As i said, F*cking ridiculous.

And as for telling young travellers to start calling out their own community, cop on and do it yourself.

Yes he does. He said something along the lines of 'Leo as an ethnic minoirity himself...Indian... should know that'

The man is a walking disaster, stumbling from one gaffe to another. Casey has lived outside the country for most of his life, is it any wonder he's so out of touch with what is going on in the country.

    I think he believe's he's running a campaign in 1950/60s Ireland, not 2018.

It's still a good laugh watching how many people are desperately trying to present a view that he has more support than he actually does.

Whoa calm down. It’s a discussion.

The best thing about all this is watching how Politicians, radio & TV presenters in conversation all panic and vomit fort the usual Sh*t about travellers treated badly ,inclusion ethnicity culture BS..... desperately trying not to say the wrong thing and appear all open and tolerant.

I imagine it like they were all in the same room and you'd swear Casey had lobbed a live grenade in and they are all frantically passing it from one to the other trying not to F8Ck up . After every interview I bet the first thing they do is call their PR handler and ask how it looked, Was the optics ok. bklahh blahh........

And for this I think we owe Mr Casey a Debt of gratitude , as for the spineless pathetic trough scoffers in DAIL Eireann and vacuous media Sh*ts & journalists you have all I have left for you , my contempt. Cowards

:confused::confused: Why would I have to find something I never claimed???

I fully support incitement to hatred legislation as I said way back. 'Support' means I agree with the penalty's for it.

DNA is DNA. Humans cannot alter it as far as I know. Nor your genetic origin.

Humans cannot alter DNA? Where have you been the last 40 years?

Yes and as you know hatred of blacks is there already and you will go to jail if you incite it or enflame it. Law of the land Tayto.

Ah no Francie. It has to be proven that there was "intent" to incite hatred.
Let's wait and see if anyone takes him to court. I'll bet a pound to a penny nobody will because it would be impossible to prove as Casey has no prior history of incitement and what he said was based on fact.
What hurts the Govt, media and people like you is as I already said. His opinion resonates with a huge section of the population.

I agree. There is no way to prove it. That is why it is expressed as an 'opinion'.

So in your opinion, Casey should go to jail for voicing his and the opinion of many others. Interesting concept.

By the way, all the way through this conversation I have accepted there are huge issues with some of the travelling community.

The solution to that does not lie in generalising about them and inciting hatred of them.
Any democratic public figure knows that you have to be very careful around these matters.
I find it extraordinary that Irish people don't understand this tenet of a democratic society, given our history.

No, he should go to jail if he intentionally incited hated. Quite a different thing.

So by this reasoning, we need to tip toe around the Hutch and Kinahan crime organisations and not upset them. What ethnicity shall we label them with ?

So rather than address the issue raised by Casey the lazy Govt, media and several posters unite to attack the messenger. Typical.

Casey is a joke at this stage especially if he talked about Varadkers Indian background. I don't know the context but can't think of any way it could be relevant. There are two things here. Traveller ethnic minority status, and traveller behaviour and lifestyle. They are distinct from each other.

The ethnic minority status was granted by the government, and was not opposed by any elected representatives. He had no reason to challenge that, nor was he qualified to do so.In terms of behaviour and culture there are undoubtedly serious issues, but they will only be solved by better law enforcement and also the state dealing with genuine issues. But critically there needs to be better leadership from within the traveller community. They need to face up to the problems, one concrete improvement would be to ensure children stay in school.

Paveen Pointless incite hatred in me every time John Collins speaks, Margret Cash incites hatred in me Every time she speaks ..

A hatred for this country and the way those who contribute the least benefit the most and are aloud to thrive and others more deserving are left to rot on trolleys, in schools without Special needs Assistants, without mental health supports, having their access to the latest medications denied because of cost, working and raising kids without access to affordable housing ( NOT FREE FU*KIN HOUSING) watching our Children,Parents,Brothers,Sisters,Friends unable to benefit from the contributions they make economically, socially and culturally because some freeloading lazy useless Fukin Passengers have had large chunks of resources piss*d away on them over & over again.

That not only raises the hatred but the bile aswel. I don't give a sh*t About the feelings of travellers/junkies/spongers if you choose to live outside the boundaries of respect & Decency that society holds then you should not expect its protection.

Even thieves with 37 previous convictions don't get custodial sentences. Good luck.

Whose fault is that? It isn't mine or yours nor indeed travellers fault that laws are not being enforced.

And seriously how blanket statements like Casey made are supposed to offer any solutions to that very real issue you posted escapes me.

We get the government and state law enforcers we deserve. Vote them out instead of electing this man to an office with no power anyhow and an office he doesn't want to get based the dangerous remarks he made, apparently.

    How?

He singled out a group in the same breath as saying everyone should be treated equally?

So you also think we should all equally get a free house with stables attached? Shall we all equally accept a tax audit from the Revenue?

If, being the optimal word here. And if he did, in what context was it talked about?

Leo is of Indian descent, it was fairly well championed how we were progressing as a nation, even having a gay - mixed race Taoiseach.

Though I'm still sceptical about what Casey said, if anything about Leo, and the context surrounding it.
The ethnic minority status was granted by the government, and was not opposed by any elected representatives. Ironically enough, there was also a law passes that children born in this country shouldn't automatically be given Irish citizenship, and we now have a little boy of Chinese ethnicity, but Irish born, facing deportation because "its the law".

How any of our elected govt representatives can stand up and accuse Casey of racism/bigotry or divisiveness, due to him calling for equality - in the same week a young lad is potentially facing being booted out of the country, despite being born and bred here is a national embarrassment to them all.

No shame double standards, but nothing new sadly.
