This is about the 4th time in the last few months that the network has gone down.
Im regretting signing an new contract with them now.

When it was meteor I don't think the network ever went down.

"DNS [Domain Name System] outage", and said that there is no timeframe for a restoration of services."

    Sound.

It was owned by eir for a bit though  before they rebranded it. Thats like with 3 as well every one is using their mast & when its goes its World war 1.

Down here in Donegal. I can log in with fire tablet which is odd but then again I'm not into all the technical stuff so maybe that's normal
Use your tablet to follow my instructions on the previous page.
As for the need to change back. You can if you want but you don't have to. Only if Google's DNS starts getting the same trouble as eir's did today.
I don't fully understand how this all works, I just know that it does.
Worked here too in cork thanks for the information.

OK, I'm going to try to post the idiots guide to changing your DNS to google for F2000 modems
first open a new tab and enter http://192.168.1.254/ into the address bar
username is admin and password will be your wifi password as printed on the back of the modem
From the top of the page click Internet
In internet settings go to the bottom of VDSL WAN-1
just after IPv6 address prefix list you'll see two buttons, Delete and Edit.
    Press Edit
Scroll down until you see an unticked box called Static DNS
    Tick the box
8 more boxes should appear called IPv4 Primary DNS Server and secondary DNS Server.
In each of the boxes for the Primary server replace all the numbers with a single 8
then in the secondary server replace the first two boxes with 8 and the last two boxes with 4
It should look something like this.
    IPv4 primary DNS server: [8].[8].[8].[8]
    IPv4 secondary DNS server: [8].[8].[4].[4]
Click Save a few lines down.
After about a minute. Internet should be restored. There should not be a need to restart your modem.
    Hope this helps someone.
Not looking for help (I can set per-device DNS) but in case anyone is having issues I should point out that my F2000 doesn't hold these settings, for whatever reason. It never has, could be a bugged FW I have or something.

In an earlier post someone said no, but we could change the back if we wanted to. I took a photo before I changed them.

Locked out of what? Just keep using Google DNS if you don't trust that Eir will stay working

Change dns works, then you can change it back easily.

I've been using a different DNS for months, so you don't have to worry about it. I'd recommend changing it anyway, as the open DNS gives you a far better browsing experience.

And no, no real reasons not to change it. I'm sure Eir will come up with one though :pac:

    Did you reboot the modem?

Try under : Network Settings - Home networking - DNS Values - (near the bottom of the page)

My wife's wifi on phone wasn't working so I changed to google dns.

However I have now lost the ability to cast eir sports.

    Any ideas?

Edit: got it working by restarting my phone

I changed DNS on the F2000 modem, but, rather than being connected to VDSL LAN - I'm now connected to GE-WAN1? That may be *cough* because I changed the dns settings on the wrong one, but should I be connected to VDSL? (I changed back to non static on GE - WAN and it just stopped working again, but I don't have the option to disconnect or connect to VDSL)

I also noticed that the time server won't sync. From memory I seem to remember this being an issue on the old modem, before Fibre so I'll just change the NTP server.

Lastly, my 5g network appears to have disappeared on my laptop  but I'm still connecting to it on my mobile?

So much for Fibre being "fantastic - no issues"...

    Thanks guys....
