    All professional fighting is prizefighting.

True, but I thought we were all under the assumption of what Conor's definition of prize fighting is these days in the post-Alvarez/Mayweather world.

Prize/professional fighting would be him lining up a fight with Tony Ferguson, facing the winner of Diaz/Poirier even if it's not the big money rematch with Nate, look towards getting wins over the likes of Kevin Lee and Anthony Pettis and build-up to that Khabib rematch. However, the 'prize' for Conor is now the big money fights, of which Khabib is arguably the biggest as his next move, not mere professional fighting or clearing out a division against the other ranked contenders.

I'd imagine both McGregor and Khabib won't fight more than two fights each - money is made.

Khabib doesn't need a lot. The word was he was retiring after this. But he won't want to go out like that if has anything to him. Which he does.

Listen ye can point all the fingers ye want - but there isn't an excellent fighter in the MMA business who is not linked to gangsters or corruption. It comes with the business. Professional fighting as a money laundering operation is as old as the hills. And it's on everyone's hands. There is no escaping it from boxing to Sambo to MMA. From politicians to criminals they all use fighters. And fighters use them.

Making out one to be worse than the other can be ridiculous. But I do think Khabib's links to some politicians and their values is disgusting.

Hilarious reading the comments saying that "riling khabib about not drinking", calling him a " backwards c*nt", and saying "lord Jesus Christ" amounts to insulting his religion. It leaves us with so many questions. Like does this mean that everyone's immediate conclusion is that Islam is backwards? Is this a correct conclusion to make? If saying lord Jesus Christ is insulting, is all the "praise Allah" stuff khabib was saying insulting too? Is the biggest problem McGregor offering him a drink to wind him up, or is it the fact that this could wind someone up in the first place? So many questions

Ah, those commentators are just trolling. Never make a point. Just make jibes. Better off reading over them

    Amazing.

'this news comes on the heels of a disappointing estimate of 130,000 buys for UFC 228.

Combine the 2+ million buys with a $17 million gate and you really do have yourself one hell of a revenue generator. McGregor’s return to the cage was big business on multiple fronts.'

Just watched the fight again and holy Sh1t that illegal knee from McG could have ended the fight, don't know how Khabib wasn't flat lined.

And no warning from Herb Dean.

McGregor has thirty million followers. Have you heard Khabib's english?

My point was his fame is exploding. The UFC will hire a team to manage the English version of his social media to promote him.

    His spoken English is fine.

Look if RTE are covering his home coming it speaks volumes.
His back story has enough mainstream appeal to attract the attention of the mainstream. Wrestling bear's as a child!

Are those official figures? Isn't Dana well known for exaggerating to put it mildly.

The article states clearly it's projection. It's looking like around 2 million. Dana says way over 2

I think baiting McGregor gives Khabib cache. But a large audience starts tuning into Khabib, IF, they'll be bored by the maulings.

Knock out artists are always most popular. Generations of the fight game have proven this.

I might be wrong but I can't see it. I don't see Khabib having the personality to sustain that kind of fame. The main reason being it's not his personality to want such fame.

it means he speaks more clearly with less of an accent and less profanity when it suits him

In Bisping latest podcast he makes fun of some actor he worked with in his movie triple threat, because he never drank a drop of alcohol in his life.

Where are the pitch forks , that's an attack on Islam!!

It's almost as if Dana was feigning outrage over an incident he knows will make another sh*t load of money for him again. Who'd have thunk it!

Victim!!! Thanks in the main to his stunt the other night, Khabib is now a household name and next to Conor, the biggest star in UFC.
It’s a dream come through for the UFC. They will of course big him up as the man who shut up the bully. Leaked audio of “its only business” etc. will feed this narrative. Conor looks like the lad who goaded someone into acting and when they do, turns around with the “what’s wrong with him? I was only messing” defence.
The UFC and Conor moved MMA towards mainstream “sports entertainment”. The money that has come with that has and will continue to attact eltite athletes.
Conor, like Ronda before him, is in danger of getting left behind. Difference this time is the UFC learned their lesson and have managed to push Khabib into superstar status to fill the void.

Since Sunday he has gained almost 5 million followers on Instagram, from just over 6.1m to over 11m and this is without promotion.
The UFC are going to promote the hell out of him. Expect numerous talk show/TV/Film appearances, an English language social media onslaught, commercial endorsements etc.
If his next match is the rematch, he will have equal if not bigger pulling power than Conor

You really haven't a clue do you.

Jones, Lesnar, Anderson Silva, DC, GSP etc are all much bigger than Khabib.

Khabib isn't a draw. Him vs Ferguson would do 300k I'd say.
His style is boring to anyone but diehard MMA fans.

Your last sentence is ridiculous. Did you start watching this weekend for the first time?

In fairness, he might be a needle mover now.

Beating McGregor will have brought him more fans worldwide.

His style doesn't lend to very exciting fights but Russian fans might buy more ppv in future than they have before.

After all, Ireland only 6 million, Russia 150 million. :p
