How to Find Father's GAA History

    Trying to identify which family medals belong to my father who passed away last year. From Ballinasloe, he played on a winning Sigerson Cup team for UCC in the 1940s or 1950s and then played on the 1954 Connaught Championship Galway football team against Mayo. Who do I contact to find out what medals he may have earned during all his playing years? Thanks for any advice.

    If he played with Ballinasloe their website has a list of Officers and contact numbers and email addresses. somebody should be able to help you out I'd imagine

    UCC won the Sigerson the following years in the 40s and 50s

    1943/44
    1946/47
    1951/52
    1952/53

    If you get access to the various newspaper archives, they should have match reports.

    The Mayo Galway Connaught Championship game was played in Tuam on the 4th of July and the scoreline was Galway 2-4 Mayo 1-5

    Galway won the Connaught final that year 2-10 to 3-4 against Sligo before losing to Kerry in the semi-final 2-6 to 1-6

    If in Dublin and you had a few hours to spare you can go through the reels of old newspapers in the National Library Kildare St.
    Do your best to narrow down the months/years if possible.
    Check their website to see what can be done to make some reservations and get access to documents.
    If winning Sigerson you should be able to narrow the years and UCC probablyhave photos
