Hi all, when I'm out and about I will always seek out a nice coffee from Kaph or the likes but at home I'm lazy and have stuck to instant coffee..... but now it's time for a change :)

What's the easiest/cheapest upgrade I can make from instant coffee to get a better tasting cup? Any links to some recommended kit would be great!

    Thanks in advance!

All you need is firstly French press ( cafetiere) and grinded coffee and google it how to prepare your coffee or watch a video on YouTube there are significant amounts of advise there

    Agree with the cafetiere option.

Quite often I would drink instant, but when I have a bit more time to myself its the cafetiere, and it is a noticeable improvement for little effort.

To add, I was bought one of those Nescafe Dolce Gusto things that uses the pods, I did use it fairly regularly for maybe a year, but have drifted away from it for the last 18 months or so. It was decent enough, but expensive.

Another suggestion for a cafetiere. Buy decent ground coffee (not supermarket dead stuff!) and find out what you like. If you're enjoying it then invest in a proper burr grinder and buy whole beans so you can get fresh ground coffee. Small upgrades will let you know what you want from coffee. As mentioned Aeropress is a good inexpensive option too. Enjoy.

Buy a Nespresso. Clean, simple, a massive upgrade on what you're doing now, and much better than most people give it credit for. Not a massive faff and outlay either. I'd love to have the money back that I spend on my one that the beans go in as there's very little difference.

Fresh coffee should have a roasted on date not a best before date like the stale stuff you find in the supermarkets. It's freshest within 40 days if roasting, after that there's minimal oil left in the bean

It's not a massive upgrade, not an upgrade at all. It's dead coffee in a capsule as opposed to synthetic coffee in a jar.
Fresh ground coffee is on a whole different level.

The difference between instant and a pod is far greater than a pod to fresh grinding.

No, it most certainly isn't. Instant and pod = undrinkable.

You're right. Like a cafetiere filter coffer is a great way to get into real coffee.

Compeltely disagree but then again it's personal tastes. If that's coming into it at all.

That's a cop out. Quality (in almost everything) is discernible. People who like boy bands fall back on "it's personal taste".
I don't care if you want to drink it yourself but if you're recommending expensive low quality coffee as an alternative to inexpensive low quality coffee I have to say so.

That's grand if you like but you're extremely wrong. And "what I like is right" is a far bigger cop out.

Jaysus maybe you need to lay off the caffeine

The easiest option is cafeterie/French press. You just need grinded coffee and hot water. Cleaning up literally takes a minute. You can go as simple or as sophisticated as you wish with the choice of coffee.

Just as well I never said that. I said quality is discernible.
