Milk bottle leak

Hi purchased a 2 litre bottle of milk the other night from my local super market and placed in the fridge

There must have been a slight leak at the base (there was) which caused bottle to leak from the fridge on to the floor which is laminated

This caused the floors to bubble. The bubbling only happened 2 days after

I am a regular in the supermarket the last 2 years (daily)

Am I clutching at straws here ? This will be a very expensive fix for me to pay unfortunately:(

It could have been damaged in transit from shop to your house.

Lol not a hope. How could you prove you didn't damage the bottle yourself after you left the shop?

Not a chance, and I wouldn't even try.

You could have checked before you bought it, before you put it in the fridge, and could have damaged it yourself.

What the hell was in the milk that caused a laminated floor to bubble. Are you sure your issue isn't with the manufacturer of the floor. I'd have assumed it'd have been able to withstand milk.

As I have a 3 year old I've done this extensive testing myself and have found all sorts of crap in corners that was dropped days earlier.

Would your home insurance not cover it?

Pretty much what I thought already to be honest

Worth asking though, as they say no point crying over spilt milk

    Thanks

I think you have just been fortunate and I’ve been unfortunate

Laminated flooring and moisture/ wet doesn’t mix at all, especially if left for hours over night

If there was a leak in the bottle in the shop, would you not have noticed a little puddle when you picked it up. If enough leaked out to damage a floor then there would almost certainly have been a visible amount on the shelf in the shop

Wasn’t paying attention but yes would expect to have noticed that

Hadn’t opened the bottle either, just one of those things

What is the issue that you are struggling to understand exactly?

    I’ve asked a question (foolish question) , I’ve received unanimous responses that I can’t.

The thread is basically open and shut now

    Hope this helps

I'm trying to understand personal responsibility.
You put a bottle of milk in the fridge a few days ago and it supposedly bubble your floor . You didn't open your fridge in a couple of days and want to take a shop or supplier to court.

It's not really hard to see why this is confusing.

It’s really ok, everyone else has a firm grasp of the thread. I really don’t need your advice as you seem to be struggling. Thanks for trying though, best have a lie down now.

Happened over night from the time of purchase

Wiped up the next morning after 8 hours soaking on the flooring

Floor began to bubble 48 hrs later

You'd imagine thered be some in the bag too. Or in the car or whatever way it was transported to the house

True, it wasn’t a huge leak on the floor but due to the time on the floor , it soaked into the underlay and the boards

Where in the bottle did it leak from? Lid, small hole in bottle or along the seam ?

    Maybe not open and shut

I have laminate floor tiles, are yours tiles?

I had to have mine replaced

The wrong glue, or glue method

Supplier vs Suppliers subby, grey area.

    But had them replaced

Did yours start to go wrong over time and not due to spillage?

Think different issue unfortunately as mine got wet over a prolonged time

Was the base of the bottle

I really would despair at the legal profession/system, if this went any further than this thread.

I'm genuinely not beimg facetious here, but when it comes time to replace the floor, perhaps consider whether one you can't get wet is really suitable for the kitchen of all places.

Small claims procedure for damage to personal property. Probably worth a punt at €25.

Yeah yeah I know, I know...

Well if there was a noticeable compromise and the seal down the middle of the bottle had split then the OP could be on to something. For small claims the op would have to pursue the company first, so maybe ask them if they've ever had leaks before (before mentioning anything about a dodgy floor!!!)

    Thanks for all the advice

Rang numerous solicitors and a few were happy to take the case on , no win no pay.

Decided on a Solicitor and should have a new floor very soon it would seem

Mods may close the thread please
