Maisel's Weisse is well liked and fairly easy to find.

Weihenstephaner is one of the best. I'm also a big fan of the Schneider Weisse range(Tap 7 is the standard one you'll find). Hofbrau Weisse is also very nice.

Unfortunately there's not a lot of Irish examples to recommend, it's a hard style to get right.

Ah, Schneider... it's been years but this was amazing

Franciskanar is my favorite and you can get it in Lidl for under €2 and from time to time they have it on offer (4 bottled for €6)

Aldi actually have Maiselsweiss at the moment, both the hefe and Kristall.

Ayinger is one of the best

  • Franziskaner & Perlenbacher, sought cheaply in Aldi or cousin Lidl.

Weihenstephan is the Rolls Royce of Weisse beers and nothing really comes close to me. Schneider tap 7 would be next on my list but is different as there's a lot more spice than the perfect clove/banana blalance of Weihenstephan.

Aaah to go back to the halcyon days of 4 Franziskaner for €5 in Lidl... *looks dreamily into the distance*

    Fantastic beer.
Prefer Franziskaner to Paulander myself but both are good wisse.

As someone mentioned Hogarten is a wit beer, not a wisse.

Agreed, I love the dunkel hefe. Why search for perfection when you've already found it :pac:

Exactly. Their Vitus Weizenbock is out of this world too.
