Ikea Pax wardrobe slight damage when putting together

Had a bit of a brain fart and didn't realise the legs were sticking out too far when I lifted it up and moved the wardrobe. The legs skewed to one side and pulled out the little metal part which you hammer into the base board.

This is the metal bit. You can see the teeth for gripping into the wood.

I tried fixing it by rotating it and hammering back in and applied a small bit of glue too. But when I stood the wardrobe up (made sure the legs were up this time). As soon as I tried to change the height of the leg, it fell through again.

The base board is laminated chip/particle board. Can I use wood filler of something to fix this? Or would wood glue hold the metal piece in place?

To make me feel even worse about it, this is on the back page of the instructions

That should be on the page before you stand the wardrobe up :mad:

Drill a new hole near the old one but not too near.

IKEA will give you a replacement board free even if you cause the damage during assembly. Check t&c’s on your order.

The top board is exactly the same so I could swap that and then fill the hole as it won't really be seen but I was hoping to fix it without have to dismantle it. It's probably not even needed as I will be attaching it to the wall. The legs are just for ensuring the wardrobe is level but it seems pretty level without the legs. Haven't taken out the spirit level yet.

Repalce the leg close enough to where the original one broke, as its attached to wall, safe to do

I’d imagine the legs square up the front when it’s attached to the wall so that the doors will line up with each other. I wouldn’t leave them off.
