The Plex website is not seeing your server. You'll need to forward Port 32400 TCP to the local IP of your Plex server.

I use VPN on my Shield and on my Server. Could that be an issue with different IPs?

This is the message I get when I try to use 32400 from within Plex

You need to forward that port to the IP of your Plex server. There is a guide here: https://portforward.com/huawei/f2000/

Is it possible to use phone credit to purchase android games on this like on my phone?

Is anyone using the Shield for live TV, e.g. the Shield as a client to a back-end server running the likes of Mediaportal, TVheadend or NextPVR?

Have tried various Android boxes including the Minix Neo u9-H, but due to reliability and picture quality issues, keep reverting back to a Windows PC running kodi. From what I read, the shield should have the necessary CPU/GPU for the job, but is there software on it that's up to the job - anyone got experience with streaming Live Tv to it from FreeSat & Saorview?

I’m interested in this too. From the Plex side of things, DVB-S2 usb tuners aren’t supported. I’ve been considering setting up a TVHeadEnd docker and I believe there is some middleware that will make it work with Plex. Having said all that, I’ve been without Sat for 6 months now and have been making do with Plex and iPlayer. Hardly seems worth the effort now!

Thanks for that - at least I can strike Plex off my list of research options so! I've a Blackgold card running MediaPortal upstairs pulling in FreeSat and Saorview.

Running Kodi / Mediaportal addon on the shield will probably work, but I'd prefer if there was a way to eliminate Kodi and select channels with something like the Shield Live channels Android TV app, if there was middeware anywhere to make that work!

You can share your tuners from an E2 box either via the VU+ plugin in Kodi, and adding the IP address and shared bouquet to the config.
Or you can skip KODI and set up your preferred IPTV player to stream directly from your E2 box.
Easiest way I've come across to do this is to log in to your E2 boxes web interface, go to bouquets and select the bouquet you want to share to your Shield.
This will generate an .m3u playlist that you can add to your preferred IPTV player.

Now if your tuners are installed in a HTPC, I'm sure you can share either the .m3u or the tuner directly from there too.

Can you recommend a good E2 box with twin tuners? It’s been a long time since I bought a sat box.

And this is the proxy that will allow you to impor a bouquet into Plex

I've used an original Vu Duo that's @7yrs old at this stage and not had any issue.
That box has since been moved on and I'm using a mutant HD2400 Triple Tuner now, again a couple of years service without issue.
The more powerful broadcam powered dual core boxes can even be setup to transcode streams to lower bitrates if needed so it shifts some of the effort away from the IPTV client ;)

    Any thoughts on this:

Get the Tiviar Alpha plus, there's a big thread with lots of support for it here:
    https://touch.boards.ie/thread/2057827739/1
    https://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/tiviar-alpha-plus

The HHB and others can give a better insight as to whats "current" on the E2 box side.
My main criteria if I was ordering now would be 2XDVB-S2, gigabit LAN and a Broadcom chipset, then getting that as cheap as possible ;)
My own set up evolved from a Multi-Sat setup originally, to using the box as a server for Shields around the house.

    3 tuners for €100. Sold!

Is it stable? I had a Azbox many moons ago and it broke my heart. I’m sure the tech has come on a fair bit since, but it’s always a concern.

It's very fast and rock solid. Also takes an internal sata. I have a backup image in the thread if you want to get going quickly

Anyone looking for cheap controllers for this who had an xbox 360 should get a usb wireless adapter. The controllers work perfectly. Instantly added an extra 3 to my shield with zero lag.

I haven't added mine yet but I thought I read somewhere that it was laggy? My ps4 controller was really laggy

I tried the ps4 controller but there was a noticeable delay in the audio when playing games

What client do you use to view live TV on the Shields? And can you also view recordings and EPG data from the client?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,805 ✭✭✭✭banie01

I use Kodi and Vu+ PVR plugin on 1 box.
Yes it populates the EPG data.

On the other 2 I use perfect player and the m3u for the shared bouquets and after setting up and pointing to the EPG data that pulls it too.

That's interesting! Why the different approaches? I assume by using .m3u files, you just get liveTV there and don't bother with recordings on these? Although I'd imagine recordings can just be delivered thru a share as well.

Basically I'm going thru Kodi as my client for everything but would be great to be able to present the channels & EPG via Live Channels on the Shield. Perhaps I can still share the recordings store via something like Plex then, and wave Kodi goodbye

I forget to address the recordings. The Vu + plug in in Kodi allows remote scheduling of recording.
This is available on Settings>Addons>PVR Clients>Vu+ Enigma2 client.

Yes you are correct, easiest way of doing that is via mounting the E2 HD as a network share.
The recordings are then available in Kodi or whichever frontend you prefer.

Different approaches are just my own little foible, I always like to have an alternative option and where I am running a few instances of a setup I'll usually have 2 setups.

When I 1st set up back in @2011, recording and being able to playback on the remote boxes was "VERY" important to me!
The set up initially was to use my E2 receiver as a media library with a 2TB drive and the tuners.
As time moved on, I changed the setup, improved internal Network added a NAS and TBH with the near immediate availability of any and all TV I watch either via KODI sources or catch up TV I honestly cannot remember the last time I recorded anything from TV rather than used a remote source.

Now that said, the only reason I get away with not relying on "record" anymore is that I live in a UPC cable area, If I was on slower or MBB broadband I'd still be using remote record.

Recording is essential for me as I have Coronation/FairCity/etc fan in the house!

One final question - when using the non-kodi, i.e., IPTV approach, can you pause/rewind live TV, or do you need to be using Kodi for that?

yes, tried it again and working now. All horribly overpriced compared to steam but still.

I'm testing out StbEmu at the moment and I notice that there's additional options available for different colour buttons but I don't have that on the remote, I've see the mapping thing but you seem to have to lose functionality on the remote such as volume control, anyone have any tips/easy guide on how to set up the buttons?

Seems to be a lot of Amazon discounts on the Shield on the last week or two. I wonder is there an announcement of a new one coming to cope with the new GameStream. It's been around since 2015
