Burt Reynolds was a very good actor, and will always be remembered for the Smokey And The Bandit films (though he wasn’t in the really crappy Smokey and The Bandit 3 - just as well). He had a great film comeback in Boogie Nights

Burt was also excellent in Deliverance. I had a boyhood crush on him and thought he looked mighty fine in Deliverance RIP.

    He was amazing in Deliverance.

Marlon Brando couldn't have done better in that role, Yea I said it.

Of the four main actors in Deliverance made in 1972 Burt is the first to die. Ronny Cox, Jon Voigt and Ned Beatty are all circa 80/81 this year. Fantastic movie. Of the four biggies he made (Deliverance, Longest Yard, Smokey & the Bandit and Boogie Nights) Deliverance probably stands as an undisputed classic in the critical sense. Smokey & The Bandit is probably his most beloved by audiences.
Not a great actor in the sense of Henry Fonda, James Stewart etc but one who made films enjoyed by a mass audience and never took himself too seriously.

Here's a clip of him talking about Deliverance in what must be one of his last interviews (from around six months ago):

I rewatched that recently. Great film. I’m not the biggest of Paul Thomas Anderson but I can make an exception.
