I really enjoyed that,, Did a straight 8 episode binge (with beer).

How long till S2 lands,, (Will get some beer in) ..

Just finished watching all episodes and I really enjoyed it. I read all the Jack Ryan Sr books as they came out and I think Tom Clancy would be proud that the script did them justice.

Season 2 is already filming so I would guess it should be released a a couple of months earlier in the year than August next year. Apparently the villain is a South American dictator.

It was good. Nothing amazing. Some serious holes here and there.

I like John Krasinski and Wendall Pierce.

Too many Mike Hammer getting shot/stabbed/slashed but carrying on moments. And no-one blinks an eye at a man running around the metro with a gun until he fires a shot in the air

The whole 'hostages are the weapon' could have been brilliant..but it was so rushed it ruined it,just for a change let the president/vice p/main target actually die...it's boring knowing good ol Mr President is too important for that.

In fairness, having watched four episodes, I think alcohol is definitely required to blur some of the more ludicrous aspects of the story. The drone ffs!
And he's getting it on with the doc and she fails to notice a bleeding stab wound?

Looking forward to this, just need everyone to head out so I can watch it in peace.

Enjoying this a lot. I've just passed the half way point.

Reviews are praising the Middle Eastern parts for making Suleiman a three dimensional character, but I find those bits boring and I wish they weren't in it.

Krasinski, Pierce and Cornish are all great.

On the finale now how the F did the terrorist guy get back into the states that's absolutely ridiculous no?

Surely his picture would be sent out to every airport entrance to US for whoever's at the gates for inspection

That was ridiculous. Imagine Bin Laden rocking up to a border patrol officer back in the day. The writers should have been a little more creative with how he gets into the country.

Also, surely all the hostages would have thorough medical exams after being brought back to America.

I also though the "I will buy all your eggs" scene was a bit cheesy. I think it would have been better and more realistic if the father just completely rejected the drone guy's apology.

So, it did go a little crazy in the end but overall I enjoyed it, John Krasinski and Wendell Pierce were a good team, and I'm looking forward to the second season especially as Noomi Rapace is it in.

pretty cheesy and ridiculous but good standard vege fare overall.

plot reminded me of the plot of the book "I am pilgrim" in some ways.

(good book if you haven't read it)

Yeah finished it John krasinski was pretty good in the role but the story in the last episode just fell apart the action was pretty good but it didn't wow me like I thought it would the reviews overhyped the action scenes for me by saying it matched big blockbusters no it didn't imo maybe one action moment in one of the early episode's but that was it.

He had changed his look from all the videos and had travelled via Canada on a private jet with a sick child, great cover IMO

    the french police are idiots!

    It’s not real.

(Fair amount of spoilers in this thread btw)

Which is why it says **Spoilers** in the thread title.

Although the acting was good and the Middle East scenes were well done it stretched credulity too many times to be convincing.

3: The immersion is a bit lowered when they go to the Yemen/Syria scenes and the countries don't have the look of being in huge civil wars. I'm unsure if it's Lebanon though.

For a first season it was okay. Krasinkis is likeable but his character as written is very bland- at least a better Jack Ryan than Affleck or Chris Pike. As regards spy dramas I still think Homeland, Berlin station and Condor are better.

Deciding whether to start this or not.

If you check out any of the major TV series in the last 10 years on IMDB they all tend to get above 8/10, which would suggest they are all excellent. This is same.

So as someone with not much TV viewing time, I have to be a bit more selective.

    Should I start this one?

Ì found it very good, but I don't know what you are into so hard to know if you'd like it or not :o

At a very high level, it's about an office based guy who gets involved in field work while trying to stop a major attack. I guess it's a bit 24/Homeland-ish

It's only 8 episodes, try a couple, if you like it keep watching it, if you don't, don't.

    the french police are idiots!

I found all that pretty hard to take alright but it isn't unusual in American programmes

I thought it was a solid first season. I enjoyed each episode, the action scenes were very well done.

I think Krasinski was grand without being fantastic. Can't help feeling it could be better cast, both himself and Pierce tbh, I love Pierce in The Wire and Treme, but I don't think he brings the gravitas that a James Earl Jones has.

I think the drone pilot side plot was completely pointless.

Not a big fan of Krasinski, can't warm to him at all.
And I got bored of 23 after series 1.

    So I'm out.

I wanted to like it but it is just not very good. Standard run of the mill terrorist action show done far better by a previous Jack almost 20 years ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

4: I thought the highlighting of the danger of friendly fire was done well and the target at the end of the episode was unexpected.

1 episode to go, and I really like it!

Not my usual type of thing, and I don't read too much into stuff like others may do, so saying that I loved it. First show in ages I was totally hooked on. Definitely worth a try for the sake of 8 episodes
