I just caught the end of this but I don't get why Rochford is doing this. Marty asking did the CB contact him since he resigned and stuff like this. It's over so he should just move on. Its dragging up a bad vibe to the position that could make it hard to fill.
I don't know why Rochford has to be on RTE news and Miriam and whatever else. He made his statement. Move on. Kerry are still without a manager but there's no mention of that.

I hate seeing players or management doing so many interviews because every article is exaggerated as click bait and draws nothing but negative comments from keyboard warriors.

Why can't we stay out of the limelight and get on with what has to be done.

    This is too funny

Glad you approve. The opinions of people who only joined Boards today & who have a whopping 5 posts to their name, are SO well respected.

To be fair, to say that the Mayo Senior Gaelic Football team manager's job is the most high pressured managerial role in Irish sports is slightly over egging the pudding.

Your first clue that I do not 100% believe that to be a categoric fact, is my throwing the word 'arguably' into my post.

Maybe Rochford wanted to absolve the players of any blame for his resignation? Or maybe it's as simple as RTE offered him a few Euro to give a couple of interviews.

Eamon Fitzmaurice has been on Off the ball a few times in the last month so Kerry aren't much different in that regard.

Why wouldn't he put himself out there. Plenty of cheques to be cashed if RTE et al take a shine.

I'm sure rochford will be the candidate for our neighbour now once all these cheques have been cashed so. Walsh will be gone next year.

And quite possibly might do what John O Mahoney did in 1998.

Well I for one won't be listening because as much as I respect him as a manager and would have been happy to see him back I found him absolutely unbearable to listen to! Aaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I won't miss him being interviewed Aaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Whatever your opinion on on Rochford. You are just being a dick there in fairness Km.

It's starting to make him look bad in my eyes and ask what's the point of this.

I would imagine if anyone has a bad vibe over this it is Rochford and his proposed selectors and how they have been treated. One of them, Peter Forde, an former Mayo captain and a former manager of Sligo and Galway.

I found his interview very reserved and dignified.
If anybody is making the position hard to fill it is certainly not Rochford. It is the Mayo County Board and a players revolt that had the two joint managers H & C removed after just one year in the job.

Looking at it last night my first thought was that rochford wanted the job back and the question about whether there was contact from the board might force them to contact him in some way, initially for an apology but more for a bit of open dialogue.
If he was fully confortabke with his own decision to resign then there was no need to follow up the statement he gave. It's not like the county board were firing shots across the bow.
It looked like he might regret his decision I thought.

But he couldn't honestly stay when he was being undermined.

It reminded me of the time when Jim White of sky sports interviewed the then rangers owner charles green in a hospital bed.
It had a weird, awkward, eery feel about it.

I know Rochford will have wanted to get his side of things out there but it does seem odd that it was done via an interview on the 6one news

But how exactly was he undermined? Thats the big unanswered question I think.

    I don't think it's even arguable.

I would put the Irish soccer team job, the Irish rugby team job, Jim Gavin's job, the Leinster rugby head coach role, the Munster rugby head coach role and possibly the Ulster rugby head coach role (after all the shenanigans up there recently) ahead of the Mayo job. And that's just off the top of my head.

Part of a manager's job is media work/interviews
He was unbearable to listen to
    It's a valid opinion/criticism imo

I had forgotten about that side of it until I heard him being interviewed by Marty

    spiel was uncalled for.

What he has done is add another layer of cream on this like H/C did when they did their interview, but what is the point really. Nothing is going to change for him so why do it. He made his statement about his resignation and it was clear about the CB not backing him so that should be it. Coming again with round two and been questioned by Marty is just a muppet stroke.

I can understand he feels bad about having to go but someone should tell him to stop digging. The hole is big enough.

Now is the time to do the interviews and get it all out there whatever he wants to say to make his peace and move on. Not like what H&C done, a year later and after the team and new management.

He is certainly entitled to have his say and as you say its as well to get it done and dusted now .

Mayo cannot afford to burn its Bridges with good managers that could potentially come back again some time in the future .

Jack o Connor teaches in cahersiveen. 4hr drive to Castlebar. Can't see him doing that twice a week. He wouldn't be home till 2am and get up for his teaching job.

We need a helicopter or two or three .

There are enough Mayo millionaires / billionaires ( around the world ) to come up with a few helicopters .

Actually Dublin should pay for them to get some decent competition .

The GAA should be helicoptering players living too far away . If they are willing to Molly Coddle Dublin they should be doing more for everyone else .

Ah,but won’t he have the summer off!!!

Sounded like a clear the air type interview where he just stated he was ready to move on and clearing the way for the next person to come through. Maybe he didn't want to leave the position with people wondering about where he stands and making it more difficult for the next manager to take over.

Despite Horan saying he wasn't interested, I still think there is a strong possibility it will be him. Don't think his rejection of the role was that emphatic. If he could get what he wanted from the county board, I think he'd come back. But therein lies the problem.

Yep totally disrespectful to someone who has dedicated 3 years to the job.

It certainly didn't sound like an emphatic No to be anyway. Maybe he wants to sound out a few players to see if there is an appetite for him to go back. The danger with going back is that he will have to give up some handy media work that he has now, and he might never get that back again.
