Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Taking a UK car back to UK

    my son says you have to pay and get a certificate from ford to take a cortina back to the uk.it was originally a uk car and has been here for about 12 years but i might be taking back to the uk permanantly is this true.if so it might have to be sold here.

    I don't think Ford will need to be involved in this.
    Is the car still on UK registration plates? If it is on UK Plates is the car on a UK SORN? (off road notification). Or was the car imported and registered in Ireland?
    Your post is not that clear on the car's current status.

    I think it’s a £55 fee to bring it back to the UK but apart from that you should be good. I can’t remember but I think you get the cars old UK registration number back too.

    It seems you will only need to get a dating certificate from the Manufacturer (Ford) if you do not have your Irish log book / registration document, but I guess you will have that as the car is registered and used in Ireland.
    You would have to submit the Irish Logbook to the DVLA in UK, when importing the car to UK. It will not be returned to you. If you do not have an Irish logbook / registration document, then you need to send a letter explaining why it is not available with a dating certificate from the manufacturer or other acceptable source.

    There are a number or procedures to follow, fees to be paid, and forms to fill in and paperwork you would have to provide.

    It is definitely possible for the car to go back to its original UK plates - one of my friends imported her car from NI to Ireland, but has since moved back to NI and it's now on the plates it had originally.

    Yes, should be fine - I brought a car in from the UK, and drove it here for 8 years, sold it to an Irish guy who, after another year here, emigrated to the UK and brought it with him. He was given the original reg again - he sent me pics, and it was like going back in time 9 years...

    I know that normally you'd have to get an MoT before they would re-register a car, but I know yours would be exempt so I'm not sure how that works.
