Does the tune change depending on driving mode though?

Yes, it changes, feels much slower in the other modes. The car when not warm enough feels about the same as eco mode.

An error has flashed up twice recently for me, "Error: workshop! Only leave vehicle in position P.".

Happened while driving and only appears for a few seconds but no noticeable adverse effects, searching online and it seems might need to replace the shifter assembly. Anybody experienced this and had a good outcome?

It's not Revo tuned so, the actual map isn't switchable through the mode button.
When the engine is cold boost is reduced, that's the only time it will feel slower.

Revo maps are switched through the obd port with an sps unit.

Is their any way to tell what map the car has?

    Get it dynoed

The quickest way would be to bring it to a VW garage for diagnostics and see if the TD1 flag is highlighted. They will also be able to tell you how many times the ECU may have been flashed.

Will cost you whatever they charge most likely for an hour though and they won't be able to tell you what map it may be.

It would be a waste of time and money going to VW, all they will be able to tell is that the ECU was flashed.

Bring your car to someone like Joe Power, he does live mapping, he may be able to tell from the ecu settings what map, if any is on the car.

Are there any hardware additions, intake, exhaust, intercooler?

He asked how to tell if the car was mapped, that's the easiest way to see for someone who doesn't seem to know where to start....

I would disagree, I would bet VW wouldn't be able to say for sure, from experience they will say it "could" be mapped.

Bring it to an expert and know for sure.

Also, I didn't see the post above mentioning that mods were removed before he bought it.
Again, the car could be running a map to suit these mods which it doesn't have and could cause fuel problems, I'd get it looked at asap.

    Get it to Joe Power

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

I'm in agreement to get it looked at straight away, but VW will be able to confirm if the ECU has been flashed at all previously and how many times, that's quite useful information, especially if he bought it from them originally and has any kind of warranty from them on it. Could be the difference in them having to cover things or washing their hands of it.

If you want an in depth analysis of what's on there and if it's any good, then Joe Power is the next stop.

First time thread poster, and first time GTI owner as of next week.

Have a year old GTI coming over from the UK - only issue now is I have the wind up me after reading the plight of Joe and others.

Any recommendations for what sort of security gear I should be looking into? Looking at a steering wheel lock and possibly a pole at the entrance to the driveway.

What sort of locking bolts should I be looking at for 19' Brescias?

    Cheers in advance.

It should come with locking bolts on them already, the better thing to do is try and keep the locking key out of the boot (and car, if possible). Another option would be some Mcgard ultra's, but finding the right size is tougher in them.

Other than that it's your standard affair with regard to security, anything obvious and off-putting for the normal opportunistic thief will do. if the pros want your car, there's not really much you can do, but having reinforced front doors and decent double glazing along with a house alarm you set every night is the best you can do, along with some external lighting and cctv.

You could also look at getting something aftermarket put onto the car, alarm wise. that can't hurt either. Finally, if your new car has keyless entry, buy a box to keep the keys in so that it can't be lifted through the signal relay method.

It's coming specced with an "alarm" and locking bolts so will have to properly check out both before deciding where to go from here.

On top of the great advice from dar, consider also a tracker. Great peace of mind for about 60 euro / year and can be moved into any new car you buy.
You will know where your car is at all times (even when switched off) and you can also see how much of a gob****e the person is whom you gave a loan of the car to - with real time speed, g force and geo location data. “I wasn’t driving that fast” me hole.

    Muppet man.

Not sure if allowed to recommend, but VW garage where I bought my car worked directly with a company called metatrak.ie

But honestly all will do more or less the same thing. Cost will be the only difference :-)

Their was a racing line intake and an intercooler on it from receipts I had (was put back too stock before the garage that I bought it from got it). It had an uprated clutch which was slipping so I'm guessing would need decent power to do that. When I had it in getting the clutch done mechanics noted it may have had a bigger turbo as the heat shields where missing.

Is there any company name on the receipts? Lots of places mapping cars in the UK.

Just saw a ni reg gtd in Waterford- have to say it looks really well and if I ever get rid of my mark v gti I would consider getting a second hand one - although just spent the last two days touring the south east covered just under 500km return from cork and the mark v never missed a beat

Can't see the appeal in an estate golf at all....just doesn't look right. Now the Octavia estate VRS is a different story.
