90% sure that's a male sparrowhawk. Peregrine has black markings around the eyes.

I must admit, I did experience a slight moment of rising fear. But thoughts of aperature, shutter speeds etc. soon blocked it out! That and a powerful LED lamp :)

Do you mind me asking how you get the sky like that? I assume it's a composite image, but curious as to the settings for getting that sort of sky.

I'd say that could well be a single exposure:
    ႒/3.2 14.0 mm 20(s) 1600

I would guess he used that LED torch to paint the headstones briefly during those 20s. I've done similar with people in rural Waterford before.

You mean a 20s exposure, with the torch maybe turned on for just a few of those seconds?

Literally just a flicker is enough, flashgun style just not quite as intense.

I think this would make a stunning B&W, the light and shade would look very abstract.

Cheers, I'll give it a go, I must 'brush' up on my B&W technique first tho!

Honestly, this is incredible. Love this photo.

Flickr says 5 sec exposure, but the luas and the car in the background are sharp?

I can't see why you'd be saying something like that.
