Saw a large flock of those geese on Tue/Wed afternoon along the dodder Keps and was hoping you were out and about. Three large formations together, looked quite impressive.

It's a big coincidence that you have 'cough cough' in your signature - as that is all I have done for the past 10 days - terrible dose doing the rounds.

Think I have shaken it off at last- so maybe pick up on some more flocks as I get out and about again:)

Was the moon enlarged in this photo during post processing? Looks much too big to be real.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 677 ✭✭✭Loki98

Sorry about the delay in replying, I only came across this by accident.
Yeah the moon is enlarged, its a composite photo.

    Nice well done!

Did you manually scan or use some pattern recognition app to get it ?

Noticed the water tower on the right hand side of the first shot, figured the taller buildings were Ballymun and tracked back across maps :)

Keps riverside photos keep getting better and better. Some of the shots over the past few years have been magnificent.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Thanks for the kind words OldGoat.
I'm retired and have time on my hands:) ( for a while anyway)

I bought a second hand full format camera( Nikon D600) about a year ago - and shortly afterwards purchased a new(cheap to my mind) Tamron 150- 600mm lens

I just find the combination works so well for me.

    Thanks again

Sorry for quoting / comments in this thread, but I'm 99.9% sure I've seen this shot used in an online paper article yesterday.
Worth checking your permission / copyright settings?

Edit. Gioogle search shows multiple hits

At this stage the photo was almost gone viral. I've seen it online in multiple sites, as Facebook profile pics, memes and even as a flag for a football (Ruby?) match.

Hi all and thanks for making me aware of this.
My photo of Martin McGuinness is being used widely and I've seen some composite images doing the rounds. Some people that are using it are starting to credit me as the original photographer.
Overall, Im happy to see it getting such great coverage but my concerns are that someone will start to use it for their commercial gain.
I don't think there is a lot I can do about it.

Hi keps, thanks very much for the kind words. That's my 6 yr old daughter. She has alopecia totalis. It started in September and within 6 weeks she had lost all her hair. Complete shock to my wife and I obviously. Still coming to terms with it but my daughter is inspiring. Not a bit fazed by it and is incredibly strong and independent. Apart from being completely bald she is healthy and active like any other 6 yr old.

I was unsure whether to add a comment with the photo but thanks for asking!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Wailin

P.S. That photo was taken on her 6th birthday in the kitchen. I Photoshoped out the background, it wasn't set up and was just a random shot as she was opening her presents!

It's above Art's Lough near Lugnaquilla. You can see the start of Lugnaquilla to the left with the snow. To the right and over the edge is Fraughan Rock Glen. A fantastic area I have to say with very few hillwalkers.

Thanks... it was one of those really lucky shots where I was putting the camera back in the boot about 8pm after a walk near Ballycotton and I just glanced over at the beach to see a fox sitting looking at me. It trotted around the beach and rocks for 4 or 5 minutes but was always stopping to check I wasn't moving!

Guys can I ask a question about my shot #679

How would I have gotten light into the reflection in the eagles eye? I'm using Lightroom!

Try using the radial filter (or brush) and zoom in 100 %
Increase the exposure, whites and highlights slightly and reduce the contrast a little. Use subtle increases and right click on the radial button and duplicate it a couple of times and look at the changes.

What version of LR are you using?

    I'm using 5.7
I brought the whites and blacks as far as they could go without getting burnout.

Aye I was indeed, but at that speed its pure pot luck of getting a shot. It was handy that it was a straight stretch, with at least a few second of vision of the bikes as they flew past. Obstacles like people, hedges and signs made it hard to track, but worth it for the odd photo that came out alright. I do a lot of Motorsport photography, and while with rallying its all about nailing a single shot in an instant, I've played around track side at drift events to really push my tracking skills. My own logic is that I pick out a particular part on a moving object, oddly with cars its the drivers door mirror that I aim for, and just try and keep that at the same point in the viewfinder as I move with its direction. GReat if it works out, but you come home with a serious amount of blurry pics when you push it into the 1/25 down to 1/10 ranges
