I know lads who played under Ford (at club & county level) and they rate him very highly.

As KM says, a long time ago. You would only have to look at Breaffy in the last few years to see that they haven't brought much to the table. A big ticket management team who haven't really progressed the team at all. A hard enough job in recent years, in fairness. Not easy to shape a club team when you're working all year without County players who change the dynamic so drastically on their return.

Doesn’t exactly send out a message of intent

Think it stinks far more of pressure by Connelly / County Board really. Don't know why he had to open his trap and say that Rochford had a deadline of next Friday to announce the backroom team.

What was the rush and why does he feel the need to create headlines.

    Who knows
Maybe the county board will say no to it and have an alternative management team in mind

I doubt that, they might as well give Stephen Rochford his P45 if they're going to veto his backroom team. He'd likely walk away if they did same.

TBH I'm really surprised Breaffy have not at this stage won a county title and appear to have regressed in recent years.

I could be simply very difficult to source any alternatives and as km79 mentioned the county board minding the purse.

The last number of years have likely entailed lots of travel and subsistence layouts with Donie Buckley and Tony McEntee on board.

And they have to find a salary for a commercial person now too!!

They are shooting themselves in the foot if mayo aren't successful on the pitch. The commercial director is going to have his work cut out getting sponsors on board.

Not really. If the purpose of the “commercial person” is to act as a financial controller as well as gather sponsors the they are likely to be able to improve the efficiency of the financial management. That alone will bring costs savings I would imagine as at present it’s been done by volunteers which is all well and good but someone employed to do it properly will bring a bit of order and structure to things.

Im sure there are plenty of sponsorship opportunities that have been missed purely and simply because the CB doesn’t have or hasn’t the nous to ask for them or to seek them out.

Didn't Mr Joe.ie offer to fund some of that salary a few years back?

Not that surprising. Lacking scoring forwards and their near neighbours Castlebar are one of the best club teams in Connacht and All Ireland contender.

i am not so sure either , there seems to be an awful lot of terms and conditions attached to this curse , do all of the players of 51 need to die naturally or is it ok for say a giant piano or anvil to "accidently" fall on there heads like in them looney toons cartoons :pac:

That statement from Connelly was very strange last week. At least I thought it was anyway. Why put a deadline of early Sept for him to have his team announced.

This May be the first of Pope Francis's miricles , he's barely home and the county board are being inspired. I wonder was that a hurling jersey he signed?

In fairness, he would want to give him a deadline to get it sorted or else they need to start looking for a replacement. I think people are reading too much into it. However, there was **** flying around over a week ago that Rochford was going but I did think it was sh1t
