The census needs to be reworded. Last time I checked, it asked what religion are you. To most people, this means what religion are you right now. Most people will state RC.
    The question should ask;
    A) what religion are you?
    B) do you practise it on a daily basis?

As this way we'll find out the true numbers.

I think it’s fine the way it is. Don’t want the govt snooping around checking up on ppls religious practice. That’s fascist state type stuff.

So what. You are saying u know best as to what religion someone self selects for themselves. Ffs. Heard it all now.

They cannot be Roman Catholics by definition. That cannot be denied. Unless their is an A La Carte branch of Catholicism (that the abusers clearly belonged to) available to all. Is there?

Who the hell are you to “instruct†ppl as to what religion they are? Ffs. You know best eh?

I know that sex outside of marriage, the pill, condoms, being gay, or voting for abortion etc are all against Catholic teachings /rules. This alone puts over 50 percent out of being Catholic. Christian they might be but definitely not Catholic.

If people looked at themselves and realised that they are Christians but not Catholic then Ireland would be a better place

Also. Don’t ever assume who my “buddies†are thanks

Above and beyond for people that are not your buddies?lol.

I would agree Most ppl are a la carte Catholics yes. What business is that of yours or the Govt? Are we all to go to mass daily to satisfy your definition of what a Catholic is? Maybe we are not all quite as perfect as you

You're starting to get a bit creepy now.

I'm creepy, yet unlike members of your church I don't find children attractive.

Could be worded even more simply: "What religion do you consider yourself?"

    What's the church then?

The capital city and it's environs got closed down today to facilitate this mythical 78%.

    That's my business.

I am not perfect and never claimed to be unlike some who claim this is a catholic country and accepting that most people pick and choose at the rules.
'Hypocrites', doesn't the bible say something about them?

Dunno how much u know about Freddie but to give you the benefit of the doubt-a lot of the time he was so out of it on drugs he didn’t know what he was doing. And also he had total blackouts for days on end during his worst drug abuse days. He cleaned himself up to some degree from 85 onwards.

Freddie was a wild gay man. He lived a wild gay man's lifestyle. Very wild

Gay doesn't = pedophile no matter how much drugs you take. If drugs did that then Keith Richards would be the Fr Brendan Smith of rock

Freddie did not mess with children

I would wager the church would be very unhappy if that question was removed from the census forms.

But it's the Pope who gets to define Catholicism and most people aren't close to meeting it.
I would also be curious as to exactly how many truly believe, for example, that the Holy Communion wafer becomes the actual body of Christ and not merely symbolic.

It amuses me that the only ones who have descended to personal attack are defenders of the church on these threads. Btw what's a MF?

I just reminded the poster that isp's are not secure considering he/she was making allegations against Freddie Mercury. It was friendly advice.

This is what I have a problem with. There just wasn't enough a la cart Catholics turned up to justify it.

If someone says they are catholic and yet they are “sinning”/don’t agree with the teachings, that’s their business surely. Don’t see why the govt on a census form should be quizzing them on it

Why is that? Maybe I’m missing the point

Because the census informs future planning of education and health and other infrastructural things.

That ridiculously high 78% figure distorts consideration of the above.

Hey what can I say? I'm not the one calling out chilli abuse victims while at the same time having the proof that they are telling the truth.

The guy says one thing & does another. Saying in a speach today that the church has done terrible things is a bit hollow when only a few months ago he tried to silence abuse victims in chilli. I d believe for a second that his opinion has changed in less than 6 months.
