Yeah, makes sense. Will disconnect it until I pick up an in-line fuse. Any suggestions on where to pick up an-line fuse with battery terminal connectors?

Motor factors usually have a display with various electrical bits and pieces. Or failing that Halfords have them.

Soldering and/or crimping, with heat shrink tubing on top is the way to go to make these sort of connections. Easy if you know how and have the tools...

So i pulled the triggger on a new exhaust setup as the old ones were whisper quiet. Baffles were taken out straight away, they have a nice deep note and it sounds like a motorbike now, will miss it being a bit of a sleeper but glad the big, ugly, insanely quiet, exhausts are gone.

I'm glad I went with these black widows over the delkevics I was initially looking at, 100 bucks cheaper and I think they look pretty good. If i didn't have to buy 2 end cans and pay twice the price I would have gone for the delkevics. Thanks to those who gave me advice and feedback.

I've more Chinese take away on this bike that my local Chinese Take Away

Fitted a phone holder with USB charger, and for safety put an inline fuse on the positive (fuse was from Halfords but probably made in China too lol).

    Works a treat :D

Sure, just done them now for you.

First off, the mount for the phone holder will fit to your mirrors, but I wanted mine held in front of me with no additional weight on either end of my handlebars.

So I needed to buy a jubilee clip from Halfords (I got the inline 5 amp fuse from Halfords too).. I ran some tape over the cockpit frame to the mount and clip didn't slide, its held very secure.

Good thing about the GS is you don't have to worry about making things look pretty :D

After that run the wire down into the frame and its an easy enough job to pass the wire under the fairing and out to through the back of the tank to the battery.

    458678.jpg

    13-19mm jubilee clip

    458679.jpg

Its really easy to pass the wiring down through the fairing and its not attached to the bars its not pulling and pushing.

    458680.jpg

The wire comes out here. Fit the inline fuse at this point, I insulted that and secured it to the wire, and its pushed safely back under the fairing.

You can buy holders with the fuse already, but I found this was without and ordered. Its a Chinese RAM copy but distributed from the UK so I didn't have to wait two months for the delivery

    458681.jpg

    Phone holder eBay link.

I wired it directly to the battery for convenience.

    1. I'm never going to leave my phone charging unattended on the holder so running my bike battery low isn't a worry.

    2. Besides that, its got a voltage drop sensor which switches off the unit and it senses a voltage drop on the battery.

    3. Its got a micro on/off switch under the water proof USB port cover.

The mount holds the phone very tight, a little too tight (it'll never fall out).

Thanks folks. Fuse soldered in-line and connections wrapped in heatshrink, battery terminal connectors crimped om. All working great. TB2F for YouTube!

You can definitely get too loud. If you feel self conscious about it, it's too loud. I want someone to take a spin on my bike to see for myself how loud it is!

I just checked my exhaust there it's very quiet compared to my old micron but I can't see a baffle to be removed. I notice cars don't notice me like they used to in traffic

It's simple to upload them to boards prisoner

Go Advanced > Manage Attachments > Browse to your picture > scroll right and click upload > Right click the link that will show up for the picture and copy link address > Click insert image back on the Advanced post > paste in image link inside the tags

    Thanks for that Frozen.

    Apologies for uploading and deleting.

I'm trying to do it by Imgur and while the link does appear the photos don't.

It's a photo of my bike I am trying to do in keeping with the thread.

If you are doing it from imgur make sure you are not linking to the gallery, click on the picture and you will be brought to a page with just the image and the link will start like https://i.imgur.com/

then there will be some characters after the slash for the actual image, followed by .jpg

you can add one of these codes just before the .jpg to change the size of the image

Thumbnail Suffix Thumbnail Name Thumbnail Size Keeps Image Proportions
    s Small Square 90x90 No
    b Big Square 160x160 No
    t Small Thumbnail 160x160 Yes
    m Medium Thumbnail 320x320 Yes
    l Large Thumbnail 640x640 Yes
    h Huge Thumbnail 1024x1024 Yes

so it would be https://i.imgur.com/123456h.jpg for a 1024 size image, it'll do 1024 pixels along the longest side which is good for boards

Refurbished my front shocks, had slight seepage on the left one.

and whilst had to take off the front end, rebuilt the brake calipers.

The snots inside the Piston cavity was not expected. nice bit of gunk in there, 2 broken dust seals and 1 seized caliper.

No one the bike felt like ****e up front.

Very smooth since. And the braking is far more progressive. I thought it was bust afterwards and rebled it, but no i was used to braking with a seized caliper and short travel on the lever.

Handy job to to when looking after a 6 month old between naps :o

Interesting comment on the braking and front end.

Dropped my moped into a local bike store earlier for a bit of work.

Needs a front tyre which is a clear part of the problem but it felt unstable under braking/going over ramps etc, does this sound similar to what you have experienced?

My forks don't look like they are leaking but I am in no way qualified to say they are perfect either.

I've had the bike on stock pipes for a good while now and they were practically silent; it might be the change but they feel like they are the loudest pipes I've ever had and I had an SV and a VFR800 with microns and no baffles  Baffles in is definitely better with these and they'll be staying in, never thought I'd say that.

If the tyre is shagged it will give all of the above.

Always start with the part of the bike that touches the road first
Tyre could be first and last source of your problems

The tyre was hard and cracked all over. It was manufactured in September 2001 and been on the bike ever since (2002 reg).

I asked the shop to give it a full going over to make sure all else is ok.

I’ve stuck with the tyres that it came with, Michelin, are they a good bike tyre?

    Yes very good.

Tyres have a shelf life. Be sure to check the tyre out in your ownership and change if poor condition on walls or on thread. If they are over a few years old and left sitting they should be replaced anyway rubber deteriorates

Michelin would be considered amongst the best tyres, both for cars and bikes. I'm running (rolling?) Pilot Road 3's on my own bike and getting Road 4's or 5's on in September for the winter/autumn.

Braking while going over a  ramp is your problem.

I probably didn't explain it properly/correctly so I apologise for the confusion.

Braking just before the approach to the ramp the front felt like it wanted to 'slide' then on the ramp having come off the brakes it felt even more unstable, almost as if the forks were gone but they don't visually look in trouble, a bit of knocking when you wouldn't expect it.

Won't have the bike back until tomorrow at the earliest and will get the report on it so that will tell all.

I did have one experience similar to this a number of years ago on a different moped and sure enough the forks were gone on that occasion but it was obvious.

    Thanks for that :D

I did have Michelin Primacy 3 tyres all round on a Mondeo one time and found they wore out very quick, granted the Mondeo is a heavy car but the tyres wore out in 15,000 kms, that aside they were great in wet weather etc.

You changing both tyres on yours? A few guys in front of me in the queue yesterday checked their bikes in for new tyres front and rear.

Michelin Power Pure is the only type I can get for a moped, as the Pilot sport on them don't come in that size anymore I was told.

Yup, as you know the original plan was to sell the bike and move back to a cruiser, but decided to put more focus in to buying a house asap.

Both tyres were looking at being replaced around October anyway, whether or not I'd sold it on, so I figured I'll get it done sooner rather than later. Tread is fine on mine mostly, but the grip isn't quite there on corners with the roads getting wetter.

Bought a pair of Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2 for The Tenere, 110/80-19 & 150/70-17 from Motorcycleshop.ie €235, with delivery and a free motorcycle cover. Great value.
Just discovered 2 new valves enclosed with tyres. :D

Yeah I remember the original plan you had for her. Did you end up getting the paint that time?

Wise move going to buy a house, i'll get there myself one day :pac:

Are you going to order your tyres on like and get a shop to fit them or order them in store? Do you do all your own servicing btw?

I've been looking up tyre prices and they vary a lot like car tyres.

The tyres on my DL650 feel very strange, even though they were only made 1 year ago they don't feel like the are very grippy in the dry, I've never driven it in the wet.

Is that price for both tyres?

Just realised my own bike has the exact same sized tyres.

Don't get the trails, if you're unhappy with ride on your current tyres get road tyres.
