So the Catholic Church has a firm grip on the Irish state then, OK. Keep being told they don't.

    Who said that?

Taytoland is arguing from a much weirder unionist perspective on this... So it's actual bigotry factoring in rather than concern over their behaviour.

Oh i have no doubt that Taytoland has absolutely no concern for their behaviour at all. To them it is just an opportunity to take a shot and show us all how superior those Protestants are

How is it bigotry when it's just factual. The Catholic Church in Ireland has raped and abused children in droves, it's just a fact. It's been covered up for decades and still covered up to this day.

Priests turning a blind eye to it or just intentionally covering it up from getting into the mainstream. If you want to defend the Catholic Church, then fine but don't dispute the facts.

One report a while ago suggested Tayto (well all crisps really that are baked at high temperatures) have issues with Arclyimide, another possible cancer upon society, unless they've reduced cooking temperatures since then.

Those silly Nordies trying to poison themselves. Thankfully can’t really buy those Tayto down here.

Too much of anything is bad for you. Moderation is the key.

Your sole motivation for engaging in this thread are related to a superiority complex that you have in relation to the Republic. Your views aren't dissimilar to the church in terms of actual stances. I'm guessing you hold the same views on the lgbt community for example.

I hold the view that the church has done untold damage to the country and think we're slowly moving towards a full separation including that of schools. Throughout the thread, I've expressed my absolute disgust for the church and it's behaviour, I favour protesting his visit. Your motivation seems to be far more petty and sectarian. (eg your earlier praise for Paisley)

Most people dont have a choice. the only schools in some areas are catholic schools.

What did the Catholic Church do when there was no education whatsoever available?

It should be no problem to the likes of yourself and the millions who don't want it anywhere near their children's education to organise something similar in these much more prosperous times.

    Shouldn't it?

why should the population be organising a national education system? that is the governments job. It is part of what we pay taxes for. it just needs to get its finger out and remove church influence from schools.

The state pays for the education system, this is from public money. The state should not be limiting education based on religion. As time goes on, the Church will lose control of schools altogether. This is ultimately better.

They are...Educate Together Schools are springing up everywhere. If there's call for one and a site available in the vicinity they'll look in to setting one up.

Not where I live though, because the Dept of Education decided to expand the existing catholic primary schools instead.

Nothing parents can do about that.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

The amount of sucking up to the church and Vatican the Govt is currenly doing is nasaeating.

As I've stated before, I've no problem with the Pope visiting but I am angry that a substantial sum of my tax money is going towards this event and that there is no real, genuine plea for atonement on the immense damage the church inflicted on this country.

At best the govt should be completely neutral on this visit and not be willing to pay towards it. Icy politeness would be apt here.

Rte Six One news stated "thousands" in attendance at the RDS, interestingly they only carefully chose close up shots of individuals in the crowd, panoramic pictures on broadsheet.ie tell an entirely different story. "Alternative facts" will be in overdrive this weekend.

RTE's coverage of this is ridiculous.

News app notification alerts of Pope's pre visit comments and Popemobile route announcement.
Pope's visit section added to News App.
Nationwide episode just on was complete promotion of the trip and the church. Nobody interviewed whho is against the trip.

Blanket coverage on the news portraying a highly excited and religious country.

and not only that, but refuse in mass to take part in the sacraments. no communion, no confirmation, no baptism. catholic schools can't refuse to take large amounts of children, so not taking part in the sacraments in mass shouldn't be a problem.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

I can understand Nationwide being a week long powder puff piece for the pope as the audience age demographic would be the silver vote but the six one "news" is Goebbels territory. Hopefully McAleeses doc tonight might restore some balance.
