I know she claims traveller discrimination

But this story was ongoing for several days before I even knew she was a traveller. Not being from Wicklow/ east coast I didn’t know the Cash surname

I think the reactions and posts here would be the exact same regardless of who she is

She wants to stay near Tallaght well then she should have went out and worked to rent or buy near Tallaght, People getting a free house and demanding where they want is an absolute joke stick her down in the middle of nowhere

With regards benefits and capping them etc. Would it not make more sense to target girls/women in deprived areas/bad family backgrounds and pay them not to have children for x number of years i.e. give them an allowance each month from the age of 18, top it up if they get further education training, keeping paying a portion of it even if they get a job...do all this to the age of 25.

Your not stopping them from having babies, just encouraging them. And they won't be too old by 25. Hopefully by then after having had the freedom a job gives and the benefit of having time by not having loads of kids, they'll be better set up to make life decisions.

It might indeed be a more sensible approach. I'm guessing a difficulty might lie in where the cut off point would be. How do you define a 'deprived areas/bad family background'. There'd always be girls just outside the threshold and they'd resent the payments that others would be getting.

As it is, having children young and getting in early on the social welfare system is a valid sensible choice. Not an easy one, but what job is?

I followed this story on facebook at 1st then on here and the difference in attitudes between these 2 formats is the polar opposite to each other. Not one person on facebook could see the point that this woman totally created this situation herself. the prevailing attitude was that it was all the governments fault, the words "personal responsibility" seemed like a foreign language
The difference is that it’s ok to support this nonsense in public and not ok to object. That’s why posters on boards have to hide behind pseudonyms. If you object to somebody scrounging of welfare you are a right wing, evil bigot. You are vilified, called a neoliberal and in some cases threatened.
This is fascism. When you can’t make a reasonable objection without the fear of bring ostracized then we are headed for disaster.

Yeah I'm still waiting for the Guards to track my IP and arrest me for Incitement to Racial Hatred.

I wasn't aware she was a Traveller till a few days after, makes no odds - she's a scrounging waster - her background is irrelevant.

If they put her in Drumcondra, I'd lay money there'll be a taxi put on several times a day by the taxpayer to get the kids to and from school in Tallaght. Plus other ancillary journeys no doubt

These types seem to take taxis around anyway when not really required. I cycle through the North Strand area every day and so many of the social welfare class seem to just grab taxis after getting their dole etc. Heroin addicts always use them too from what I can see, and I'm almost on a first name basis with the Amiens St heroin crew by now! This is in the morning when public transport is widely available. They're just lazy, and stupid with money.

Yeah, her whole Faceboook persona has changed. No more photos of drinking sessions and crystal, now it's all reposts of other Mothers with huge numbers of kids looking for big houses for free. 'All those empty houses should be given to families' etc.

They're all her friends or other women looking for free houses. I reckon she has discovered how to delete any dissenting posts.

She is giving out that DCC haven't found her somewhere live in Tallaght.
Do DCC house people in other local authority areas?

Whenever I get the luas (on the rare occasion I'm in dublin) it's because I'm drunk and I can use the leap card on the luas instead of 20 quid in a taxi back to my hotel

That's the beauty of politics you can do what you like once you account for it accordingly.
It's not a payment to the child, it is a payment to the parent in respect of the child. Big difference.

It can and should be capped at 2 children.
There should, in addition to "no welfare for more than 2 children" be a "make work pay" movement where welfare is capped at 30k per year including all allowances, regardless of any other factors. 30k per year NET is equivalent to over 40k per year gross and you dont have any work to do.

I assume capped at 30K per couple and children rather than single parent and children? It should be capped at a lower rate than minimum wage + allowances or give working families access to extra child benefits otherwise there is no incentive there to work.

    Thanks for the replies.
I was just wondering how the whole thing would work out if benefits were drastically cut.
Would kids simply end up in care or foster homes which also costs a packet.

Rather than breaking up families, or driving existing children into poverty, the goal of cutting benefits would be to change the incentive for people to do the same thing that Ms. Cash has done. Given the ages of her children, it seems that she first got pregnant at age 16 or 17. She went on to have 7 kids in the space of 10 years, with no ability to support them, and now, at the age of 28, wants the taxpayer to raise and house her ever-expanding family in an area of her choosing. Most people can see that this is wrong.

You're right, of course, that slashing benefits would have a negative impact on existing children. So the only reasonable way to do it would be to draw a line in the sand. Children who are already born (or on the way) receive one level of benefits. But the level of benefits is cut for future children, thus changing the incentives for welfare-dependent parents to keep popping out kids that the taxpayer must then support.

The core problem right now is that, for a welfare-dependent family, every additional baby is an asset that adds to the family income. For a working family, an extra baby is a liability, because of the costs incurred and the potentially reduced income from a parent staying at home or only working part-time. That calculus has to change.

A study by Laya Life Insurance estimates that Irish families spend an average of around €105,000 to raise each child. For a working couple, then, buying a home and raising a family of seven children would cost well over €1 million, which is well beyond most people's means. So why should people like Ms. Cash get all this paid for free by the taxpayer?

Well any cap is better than nothing tbh that we have now.
But yeah I agree it should target "lone" parents too.
The only "lone" parents I know in reality live with their parents. That's not a lone parent and IMO should not qualify as such.

And now the converse is true.
The working poor must subsidise the lazy baby making machines like ms cash

They weren't criticising the Catholic Church - they were shoehorning the Church into ANY reference point SO THEY CAN CRITICISE.

    See the difference ?

I just don't get why so many comments on the church are met with people calling them edgy. You don't have to be edgy to see how ridiculous the church is.
Anyway this is off topic, sorry.

I wonder if every traveller in Ireland will be in Dublin this weekend to see the Pope. That can't end well, can it?!
