Meanwhile, you have educated professional couples agonizing over whether they can afford a second or third child.

But for Ms Cash, each additional child is another source of income.

For some, one child isn't even an option.

Plus the possibility of multiple births.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I took the liberty to look into those figures.

I know the figure for twins is 3 for the price of 2, so basically if you have twins it is €420 in child benefit.

for triplets and quads it is 200% in other words instead of €140 per child it is €280 a child by 3 is €840 for example.

Human reproduction is a business venture in its own right here in Ireland.

My nephew is now 8, there is an SNA allocated to the class in general and he gets 3 hours a week.

An OT gave the diagnosis on paper aged 4 when he started school and she was refused her initial application, she appealed and got it, anyone who knows the welfare system will know that roughly 1 in every 2 appeals are allowed so there is a high likelihood of getting it.

The term disability was never used, but the fact she secured the payment means she says 'oh they must think he has a disability if I got my carers & DCA'

We aren't close by no means, she is older than me and I had my own problems, but the fcuking clown used my own history in support of her application.

I love my nephew dearly but jesus don't stereotype the child just for financial gain I said.

The parents endlessly referee arguments with us

My nephew has autism and the only reason his mother put forward for benefits for this is that it is the only way to guarantee education supports.

She knows at least two parents claiming their child has ADHD or similar, just for the money.

Why would a parent do that to a kid ???

The Mirror today, big headline about the big nasty banks and "vulture funds" turfing out a poor dementia ridden woman from her house.

Their mortgage is 1300 quid in Donegal....that's an insanely high amount. Did they re-mortgage? It's not the government's fault she chose to be a full time carer to her ailing mother. 1300 from just one income was always going to be difficult to maintain.

Exactly. These stories need to be investigated and the reality published.

However the Mirror is like Pravda for the AAA/PBP crowd at the minute so zero danger of that.

I only read the sports news, Sudoku and cartoons at this point!

Are they parents of children who are over 7 and previously on the 'lone parents' if so this may be why. Once you get onto carers the dole will never hassle you into looking for work like jobseekers. These are also people who aren't included in the live register.

Those with children over 7 are now switched from the OPFP to transitional jobseekers allowance and this doesn't sit well with them.

I know of one case back home where there is a woman seeking an autism diagnosis for her child to get these payments as in her words 'i'm being hounded by the dole to look for work'

The entire welfare system is a mess.

Hence the incentive to keep popping them out for as long as possible, and maintain the supply of children under 7.

Baby number 8 appears to be on the way

I thought the husband was in jail. Is she pregnant by someone else, or is she allowed conjugal visits?

Spot on, Joan Burton never thought that bit through.

According to media reports he is in Custody since July 25th and a fortnight later this story breaks.

No doubt he knew his impending fate and parked a lorry load in Ms Cash's yard before departing.

Took full advantage of the occasion then.

I'm unsure of that, but I just read an article on the journal about her.

This whole 'single' parent this is really blown out of proportion.

Where are the father/fathers in these cases countrywide?

No paternal declaration = 50% reduction in benefits, then watch them squirm.

And that is the fault of her, and enablers who defend her.

its actually the systems fault and those morons that we elect...

They will when they realize enough votes are at stake. Only problem is that there is no alternative party promoting welfare reform, apart from Renua who come with other problems. I’m not even sure if they’re still around actually.

they are, I liked their page ages ago, so get updates from there, now I get notifications on a nearly daily basis. They are very much still around...

I walked past Shane Ross in the local supermarket yesterday, used to have a bit of time for him, I certainly dont anymore! I felt like venting, but you know what? they dont give a ****! Until a viable alternative emerges or people demand change, we wont get it!

All they care about is getting elected!

I hope no one takes offence at what I am about to say but I must raise something from my time at the social security.

That idea was trialled when the system was being planned to open up maintenance claims to all, i.e. the advent of the Child Support Agency.

A pilot was carried out telling mothers that a reduction in benefits was in the offing if they did not declare who the father was. There was an exemption for domestic violence and rape cases. Reports of both skyrocketed during the pilot.

I believe Scotland experienced something similar when they trialled it recently ?

    It is very, very worrying.

But there is a welfare system in place for people who genuinely fall on hard times and the government should be commended for that.

Why should they be blamed when people abuse it and take advantage?

Leo called for tackling welfare fraud and Sinn Fein and the left lost their **** altogether telling us there is no fraud.

Then everyone says go after da bankers and the thing was scrapped.

The government tried to do the right and was shouted down again.

There may be a general election this year, but there is no point in me voting because I am not inspired by the policies of any party or independent.

Mrs Cash claims not one politician ever contacted her. Not even local deputy Paul Murphy who I figured would love to have a go at ministers

I know they are on holidays but this is ongoing a few weeks now and also some politicians got involved in the protest in Summerhill. Ruth Coppinger is one

Hmmm. Even bandwagon jumpers won’t go near this and they usually need little excuse

Tht was one of the few things Leo was right about

    Welfare cheats cheat us all

He should have stuck with the campaign

True, but difficult when you are against the might of the media who seem to have a collective agenda.

  • Site Banned Posts: 210 ✭✭Sardine

Oh I have been following this thread for a while and someone suggested writing to Ruth Coppinger to express dismay at her comments on increasing taxes on the working middle income earners.
I emailed her anyway and her assistant wrote back to say that my comments had been taken on board. I told her I will do my utmost to convince everyone I know not to vote for her or her party (I wont really, but still...).
I suggest the rest of you do the same, nothing puts the shivers up these people more than the threat of no seat in the next Government.

The media always have collective agenda just like with that campaign or in Miss Cash's case

Doesn't mena their agenda should be followed

Majority of ordinary people would have had no issue with that campaign esp as any fraud is coming out of the texpayers pockets and the money saved could be used productively elsewhere

Looking at the photos of the kids there in the sun article. I actually feel bad for them, they look like kids that if were born into a normal situation with normal parents, would turn out as great kids.

The state has to break this cycle, they should be forced to complete at least second level education and encouraged onto third level. I would actually link the welfare payments that the mother or parents get, to where they complete on the education cycle....

I dont think the poor kids can be abandoned now, the state has failed them as much if not more so, than their parents. The state has allowed this (the off the wall welfare system, Ca$h is a product of the failure of this state! the state has sat by and done nothing about the housing crisis equally, and that has f*cked huge amounts of us, the opposite extremes work ethic wise, to Ca$h and her ilk!

Throwing money into irresponsible parents pockets, that cant even look after themselves, should be ended. Schools should be providing the kids with breakfast, lunch and potentially even dinner in "disadvantaged " areas, would save the kids being raised on f*cking cereal or chippers!

Could not agree more. It's just bloody annoying how there are people who think a) everyone on welfare is on 198 euro a week and nothing else, and getting nothing for free and b) anyone working for a living is some sort of robber baron 1%-er who looks down their noses at salt of the earth types who would work 80 hours a week if someone, anyone would give them a job.

    It's utter bollocks!

If you don't vote in a general or local election then you don't have the right to complain afterwards.

Allowing their mother and other mother's and father like their's to carryon like they are is doing a disservice to the kids and future generations.

The self centred waste of space! Why should politicians talk to her? She is a nobody who is clearly trying to exploit an already generous system.
As for the politicians not talking to her: good! Her housing situation is nothing to do with them.
