All pretty much wholesome looking “girl next door” types of girl according to those photos. The San Fran Rose looks a little like Cameron Diaz.

The Arizona and Cork roses look very attractive to me.

I’ve known a couple of the ones from my county all I can say is they are out and out wagons. Put on a show publically and are horrible people otherwise.

Doesn’t go for all of them obviously!

Why isn’t there a “Lovely Man” contest akin to the Rose, somewhere? One of the “Hidden Heartlands” more boring towns could drum up tourism by inventing such as fest. They would have female escorts, be they straight or gay, for the period of the festival; a female host would ask questions about the mammy, daddy, granny etc, what’s your great career path, and then the obligatory song or dance. Or what about a “Trans of Tuam” contest, that would make for a good festival.

Why are most of the escorts at the Rose of Tralee mildly ok looking at best, usually rather plain or downright spud in the mouth ugly?

Is so that the Roses’ boyfriends/partner’s don’t get too jealous or something?

    The hose of Tralee ?

Yes, but that's a different kind of show altogether.

Actually, that's a great idea. Just like the way certain towns miraculously had moving statues and kids who say the Sun dancing in the sky, there must be some place that could make a name for itself by arranging this. It's probably beyond the pay grade of Local TDs and Councillors though. If Claire Byrne hosted it, I'm in!!

The rose that is in the judging panel is Brenda Hyland. Her daugther was on Dancing With The Stars this year. Her name was Alannah Byrne.

Next year they are hoping to have one that's an ex porn star to keep the ratings up and the wolves at bay.

They are the usual gob****es who whine about everything that isn't on Netflix or watched by Bill Gates, the type that's says "guys" and goes for a few "beers" and a few is all they would go for.

Carlow rose. Her partner is there too. She just told a story about her parents who were both heroin addicts. Her mother is a recovering addict and in the audience. Her father died 5 years ago and she sang (with an amazing voice) Crazy World dedicated to him.

    She was great.

Great at what? Talking? Wearing a nice dress? Singing? Overcoming difficult circumstances? Which of these things will she be judged on? What is the actual criteria here, does anyone know?

I can't wait for the next sob story from an unemployed, transgender with a gimpy leg, that was molested by Harvey Weinstein, whose parents melted in chernobyl and Donald Trump once sent them a mean tweet.

It’s great that she is not a junkie. Must have been tough growing up in that household.

I think it's sort of a mix of things the judges look for.
I'd say the judges have the winner pciked after observing them during the week and seeing how the mix with people and how they deal with situations.
