Is it ok to be proud to be white?

    The coverage on Aretha Franklin's death today on sky news today featured tweets from several
    "celebrities" about how Aretha epitimoised Black pride.

    This has got me thinking, is it ok to be proud to be white or has the KKK's use of the words "white pride" made it so that billions of other white people are unable to utter those words.

    Id like to see a poll on this.

    Another example of this would be mexican mma fighter Cain Velasquez who has a tattoo "Brown Pride" on his chest.

    There has never been much comment on this.

    Id wonder if a white MMA fighter had a White Pride tattoo what the reaction would be.

    White minority in Ireland id say is a long way off, an Irish minority id imagine will be a lot sooner.

    MMA fighters are dicks.

    White people made the world what it is. Yes there was suffering, but in most cases it worked out well.

    Religion is the problem today, not skin colours.

    Why would we be proud of being white? It was a white British monarchy who starved our ancestors and denied their rights.

    Seems like black pride is an American thing more then anything. Maybe i'm wrong about this but I don't see much talk about black pride in other countries.

    In the case of the US though, black pride is important among black Americans due to the racism and oppression they suffered for years. However I would argue that black people being proud of being black is quite similar to Irish Americans people being proud of being Irish or Italian Americans being proud of being Italian.

    As for white pride. I suppose it's taboo for things like that because of America's history and how some could look at it as a negative thing. It also doesn't help when racist organisations like the KKK use as well, it just further aggravates things.

    Being proud of the colour one happens, by a twist of fate, to be born is fine. It’s probably a deeply embedded primal instinct.

    It’s the hating of other colors that’s the problem.

    If you feel the need to display “Brown Pride”, “White Pride”, “Black Pride” or any other variation of the theme via a tattoo or flag, banner, poster etc. then I have some bad news for you... you’re a racist cnut!!

    If you happen to be an apologist for any of these stances, you are also a racist cnut!!

    Because of the colour of you skin it will dictate your religion in more cases than not. I still believe in one less god than all of them, But they will wipe out humanity because of this(Religion) . With the influx of Economic Migrants to Europe, Who knows what Europe will be like in 50 years. Possibly a white minority.

    You forgot "Mothers Pride".. Sure that was a brand of bread in the UK!

    Anyway you are right. In this day and age, skin colours should mean nothing.

    Unless its films.. A black James Bond? No.

    I'd be suspicious of anyone who claims to be 'proud to be white', not primarily because of the obvious white supremacy connotations, but because it's almost always a reaction to black pride. Which makes it, at the very least, petty and disingenuous.

    Science incinerated 100,000+ people at Nagasaki and Hiroshima. On the op-20 years ago the only people you'd hear talking about "the white race" were neo-Nazis; the expression just didn't exist amongst Irish people talking about themselves.

    There's a particular type of thread that comes into existence at nearly two in the morning.

    In my opinion...

    Usually, but not always, when people refer to "pride" in the context of minorities, for example "Black pride" or "Gay Pride" it's a signifier that is ultimately about equality.

    Usually, but not always, when people refer to "pride" in the context of a majority group, for example "White pride" or "straight pride" it's a statement designed to reinforce ideas of superiority, that now feel threatened.
