So your company is offering you either an i7 or i9 machine. Or you've money burning a hole in your pocket or something.

    What processor do you choose?

I choose an i7. A lot of bad press about the i9 throttling lately.

    On a pc definitely i9,
A laptop, an i5 will be fine otherwise you’ll be listening to the fans all bloody day

If money was no object, or my company was paying I would still go i9. After the fix released by Apple for the throttling issue it still gives a performance boost over the i7. I've seen a few comparisons and benchmarks running the latest macos release and the i9 performs better.

But being realistic. Is the performance difference worth the cost? Nah. But that's not the question. You might have a few % improvement. Maybe that would save you seconds rendering video, but would it be really noticeable for most? No.

I’ve an XPS with an i7 and it’s a rare occurance to hear the fans, to the extent that I nearly get a fright when they kick in.
