Why do the plastic semi ridgid ducts (which I've recently installed) only last 10-15 years. How does the plastic degrade? It doesn't have any moving parts like the MVHR unit, an ashp or boiler so what goes wrong with the ducts. Mine are securely fixed so won't sag and and good sweeping bends as I installed them myself.

Dudda, as long as I hope you live, your ducting will be around for considerably longer than you or I. Considering a lightweight plastic bag could last decades I think you are safe enough.
I would like to see the evidence behind such a comment. For the record semi rigid ventilation duct systems have only bee n on the market approx 6 years.

maybe they get dirty inside and the friction for air causes pressure drop beyond design limits?
