Turbo seals

    Looking for opinions on whether its a good idea getting the turbo seals done on my car. 2.0tdi seat altea 2005. Two people have said I should do it now. There's black smoke coming out of my car after sitting overnight.

    One puff just after it starts. That's no tubro seals

    Does it start easy enough?

    Smoking from cold, I'd be looking at glow plugs or injectors first. If it's injectors it may not be worth doing pricewise.

    There's a fairly big puff on start up, usually I just run a bottle of dip through it over a couple of weeks, but it was in getting a bit of work done and injector seals and turbo seals were mentioned. Might have been a bit of up selling however one of the mates who helps me on the car said it might be a good idea to do the turbo seals now, because the inter-cooler pipes are fairly full/age/high mileage etc.

    Would replacing the turbo seals prevent run away ?

    Replacing the turbo seals is the same thing as saying new turbo, they arent a part a garage will replace separately

    could be pat of the pcv system is dodgy. you can get a buildup of crank pressure which will long term cause gasket / seal damage .
    Might not seal on overrun and could draw in oil into intake which might seem like turbo seals.

    Does the car take much cranking to start from cold - black smoke caused by unburnt fuel due to a lot of turning over before starting .
    Glow plugs shouldn't be needed at summer temps ;
    Turbo seals would be leaking oil into the air flow resulting in blue smoke.
    And as mentioned I think a reconditioned turbo would be your only choice - replacing seals not a great idea ( even though I have come across YT videos on how to do it:D).
