The Devil and Father Amorth. Don't waste your time.

Exploitative and contrived cash grab for William Friedkin. You would get more chills watching an episode of Most Haunted. Even the ones with Derek Acorah! :pac:

The exorcism comes across totally fake...
even down to the demonic voice... That appears to have been altered post production. Goes on way too long too. Don't get me started at the bullsh*t story near the end when yer one goes skidding around in a plastic chair near the end.

Watched Wind River & Calibre as both were recommended on here, really enjoyed both! If anyone had any suggestions similar to them I would be interested.

Turned this off after twenty minutes. Pacing was all over the place. And that opening monologue was cringe inducing. Glad I didn't stick it out.
    Re extinction,

Go back and watch the rest of it. There's a reason why the monologue was like that.

Also someone said the movie is full of flash forwards, it actually isn't, it just seems that way

Its not citizen Kane, but its a decent film that fixes lots of the apparent plot holes in the final act

    Chomsky(2017) on the Republican party

"Has there ever been an organisation in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth?"

I said it, and I meant
as in flash forwards that reveal the entire story
it isnt totally abysmal but it isnt great, lot of wasted potential.

They're not flash forwards though, they're suppressed memories that he's starting to remember.

Someone else mentioned The Outer Limits and it's got a heavy bang of that off it. I think I watched it with fairly low expectations after the last couple of Netflix exclusives but I enjoyed it for the B movie that it is.

As I said I meant more
they are flash forward for what is going to happen for the rest of the film - it made the "twist" fairly obvious

As I said it wasnt abysmal and it passed the time I just think it could have been better and had a lot more potential.

    'Denial' is very good

I fancied a straightforward horror film last night, but I made the foolish mistake of watching The Blood Lands aka White Settlers last night, and about the best thing I can say for it is that it was only 80 minutes long. That aside, it was sub-par and managed the peculiar trick of repeatedly skating close to maybe having an interesting idea, only to veer away from it and instead stick to the really rubbish one instead.

    Definitely one to avoid.

I liked Extinction quite a lot. It kept me interested throughout and made the most of its low budget. The third act plot swerve elevated it further. Decent sci fi effort.

I'm giving Extinction an unexpected thumbs up too. For sure it has a few too many weak moments, especially when there is too much lame exposition, and the screamy, weepy kids are somewhat irritating, but as a concept it is really good. Kind of creepy in a way how it upends ones sympathies. The cinematography is excellent in parts too - it makes up for the failings of first half and fades into the background in the second half when the story gets stronger. Hmmm. It might not thrill everyone but I'm impressed.

Just watched Extinction, improves significantly as everything starts to come together but the first half of the movie is a total stinker, and you really just can't make up that lost ground easily. I can imagine more than a few people would turn it off before that point, and I wouldn't blame them - I almost did myself.

    Good idea, just badly executed.

I couldn't watch it to the end, but please tell me the children died.
    ("Oh Daddy, I'm scared!")

The first half at least was awful tripe.
