Could all change by time we play our first game but I'm just meh about the coming season. Just don't feel positive about how any of it is building up.

    same.

A lot of that is down to Mourinho himself - don't trust him to make the most of the players we have available and he is already sounding defeated after 1 preseason press conference.

Valencia confirmed as new club captain

Very odd choice for club captain..

FFS - the guy who barely talks and was scared of the Number 7.

Solid pro, shouldn't be first choice and shouldn't be captain.

Pogba should get the armband after his rousing pre-match team talks for France.

I just have no confidence in the team going into new season. The taught of having the same back four next season......

Fred I'm excited to see how he goes but anything positive there might take a while.

Who knows whats gonna happen with Rashford Martial and Sanchez.

Up front all we bascially have is Lukaku and we won't have him for a while.

Don't even start me with Pogba I just have really bad feeling about him I really hope I'm wrong!

What i would say on Club Captain is that we do have a history of it being different to team captain.

We have had Carrick and Neville, for example, as Club Captins when there wasn't an expectation that they would play much. Think other clubs have done similar, with a veteran of the club being the club captain and a different team captain existing.

The lack of armband didn't stop him from stepping up in the locker room for France, and I certainly hope it wont stop him from stepping up for us.

I'd rather give it to literally anybody other than Valencia.

Another season of driving the ball off shins.

I'm guessing that it's Valencia based off seniority

Tbh, it doesn't bother me too. I have; I'd imagine that when push comes to shove, the likes of Lukaku or Pogba or whoever else should be vocal on the pitch without needing Val to be.

Sure look at Pogbas dressing room speeches and Lukakus team talks before and after matches during the world cup, neither of them were even captains for their countries, armband means nothing.

I would like to see Pogba captain United, but we first have to see him earn it, imo.

Last season, we did not see a captain in him. For France we did. For United this season, I hope we do. I would be shocked if it isn't something the United hierarchy want to see happen - to see him become a world class midfielder, the player our team is build around and revolves around, captaining us to glory.

But at the moment Pogba needs to play brilliantly for us, consistently, and be a leader without the armband.

At the moment I would have Lukaku ahead of him. Matic too, probably. De Gea, but I'm not a fan of keeper captains. The defence is a sh1t show and I wouldn't consider any of them.

I’d have thought Valencia would be starting the vast majority of games this season though.

Im not tbh. Based on what Ive been reading across the internet, Liverpool have everything won already. I've seen fans jump the gun after 4 or 5 games into the season before but never before the season actually starts.

After many false dawns, it really does appear that next year is indeed their year.

Exactly I'd have lukaku as more of a leader then Valencia last year and he didn't wear armband at all.

Any announcements on vice captain? Probably be young at this stage or smalling [puke gif]

Whatever about next year, they've identified problem positions over the last two years and they haven't messed about in improving them. I'm not gonna laugh off a team with a spine of Alisson, Van Dijk, Fabinho, Keita and Firmino. Then there is Salah and Mane to go along with it.

Meanwhile, here we are 3 weeks away from the start of the season still with no right winger and Shaw about to have his fourth (or maybe fifth?) false dawn at left back and Tony Shins at right back.

And Phil fúcking Jones still soiling Old Trafford.

Next year is definitely their year.

Pretty much means we won't be buying a RB if Valencia is our captain going forward. Would love to know after all these years with Utd if he has a word of English. Don't know what criteria he's met to get the armband.

Was a time when we'd have 11 potential captains on the field, now it's the player there the longest

We signed Dalot - he will be the next right back, or at least that is what the plan will be.

He can speak English but mustn't be comfortable enough to do it on camera.

I have no real expectations for the coming season especially when the defence still consists of the current crop of players.

This time last year people wanted Jones and Smalling ditched and here we are 1 year later with the same.

Smalling is going to cost United games with his inability to keep his hands to himself when defending set pieces. I just dont like him as a United player.

Jones is Jones. Will put his body on the line and possibly a good back up but he doesnt inspire confidence

Rojo again has heart but an accident waiting to happen. e.g. penalty conceded at the World Cup

Lindelof is someome Id like to see get a consistent run of games but what Ive seen hes been ok.

Bailley looks again good but the injuries prevent a good solid run.

Valencia, well he just infuriates me when i watch him. Its either blasting balls against shins or turn back and pass to midfield

    Darmian hopefully goes

Shaw has all the potential but that knjury has held him back and Jose for whatever reason isnt a fan.

Whatever combination of the above you put together it just doesnt instill confidence.

As for Valencia being captain I think Jose said its just symbolic for on the pitch so i assume he expects all players to speak up whenever regardless of the armband

Jesus christ all the upset over Valencia being appointed captain. Because our previous official captains Carrick and Neville never missed a game in the role!

You must buy your blinkers in same place as Mourinho... we are going no where with that whole defensive line up bar DDG.

And Valencia being confirmed captain has led to people reaching this epiphany all of sudden?

Did these outraged people really think Dalot with 3 senior games (all at LB I believe) was going to be our first choice right back all year?

Fúck all has changed by Valencia being appointed "Captain" yet people suddenly appear horrified

I won't be happy unless at least two quality players come in to replace the crap we have.

That's looking less and less likely everyday that passes.

Even Liverpool are able to go out and do it yet where still ****ing around with the likes of Luke Shaw.
