    Hi All,

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask. I've asked a few people the below but nobody seems to know the answer.

    - Are temporary speed limits during roadworks (a 60km/hr sign put up in a 100km/hr zone) legally binding? If you bomb through said section of road at 70/80/90/100km/hr, would a Garda be able to ticket you?
    - Second question, if the above is true. Is there a time restriction on the temporary limit (only while road works are ongoing) or is it a 24 hour limit even if there are no roadworks currently taking place?

Thanks in advance. And before anyone asks, I'm not trying to wiggle my way out of a speeding fine! Just curious :P.

My understanding is that if there is a change to be made to the speed limit for road works then it needs to be approved/signed off at local council level.

Just as an aside, a member could ticket someone for a breach of Section 51a Road Traffic act, driving without reasonable consideration, not necessarily for simple speeding
