Who fcuking cares what Liverpool spend?

They are addressing what needs to be addressed.

Klopp is of course an absolute hypocrite.

He is chock full of sound bites that LFC fans have lapped up and that can be used when it suits to cluck about "doing things the right way" and other such drivel.

Same as Jose is a hypocrite.

Same as Conte, Wenger, Pep and every feckin one of them.

Can we leave the discussion at that or move it to the transfer thread.

A wise man once said, Everybody lies.

    Football managers are no different.

    Yep. 100% agreed.

The only issue I really have is the Liverpool fans refusing to acknowledge that and instead recontextualising what he said and moving the goalposts.

Klopp, despite winning nothing, has already reached deity status with them, there are no criticisms allowed.

Must've been taking lessons off Bangkok on that....

Couldn't really care less what Klopp said and if he's a hypocrite- Liverpool are addressing weaknesses in their squad/team and that's all any of their fans should be concerned about. What's he meant to do- not spend the money needed because of that thing he said one time!?

Hopefully United are doing the same behind the scenes as I'd be amazed if a couple more players at least weren't brought in. No point in having a meltdown yet though as we really don't know what moves might be in the pipeline.

I'm not concerned with United at the moment anyway. We signed Rom last summer out of nowhere and I've no doubt that deals are being worked on. The fact of the matter is that if we dont address key positions then we will struggle to get top 4 next year. That will cost Jose his job. If in 3 weeks time we have nobody in then I will start to worry. Lots of time left.

ESPN reporting Jose has an impossible dream of wanting to sign Varane from Real. I for one would be all over this if we could get it done. With Real needing a serious re tooling all over there squad and wanting to bring in Hazard, Courtois, Mbappe,Lewandowski, Neymar they'll need funds some way would they take about 100 - 120m for Kroos/ Modric and Varane??

When you spend most of last seaosn with a first choice defence of Young - Smalling - Jones - Valencia then yeah, your recruitment has somewhat failed. All four of those players need to be replaced.

We need a new left back - none signed.
We need a better CB pairing. Maybe Lindelof and Bailey will come good - can't trust it. We should, imo, be signing 1 experienced leader - let Lindelof/Baily and (imo) Jones battle for first choice partner, other two are the backups.
We need a new right back - Dalot might be that, you'd think the hope is he will be awesome there, in time. Maybe he hits the ground running but right now it looks like Valencia is first choice.

I've not said we need to sign 11 players every summer. I'm saying we should be addressing weaknesses every summer. 1 backup (for the moment) right back and a central midfielder doesn't come close enough to that.

Jose trusting Young and Valencia is part of the problem, not the solution. Saying he trusts them doesn't magically make our full back positions fine. It means they are going to continue to be the same issue they were last season.

Problem is what you see as weakness is not seen in the same way by Jose. He convinced Young and Fellaini to stay, he trusts Valencia as his first choice RB.

Also we have second best defensive record and always in top 2-3 since Van Gaal time, our CBs are not that bad. Smalling is very good defensively but poor on the ball, then we have Bailly who missed most of last season because of injury, Lindelof had 1 year to adapt .

We have to trust players, can't keep on binning them after every year. One of the reason why we are in this position is lack of trust and continuity. All the players left by SAF was replaced by Van Gaal, all the players signed by Van Gaal are replaced by Jose, now once Jose goes, all his signings will be again replaced. This is not the way to go.

We have obvious weakness, most important than any is right winger, how many players have we targeted to address that? None.

We need a better LB, but Jose loves Young. We have so many left wingers and Jose targeted one more LW last season.

Obviously we need couple of players, one for RW and other for LB, but rest all are good to decent, or have young players who can pitch in like Dalot.

Real would be crazy to sell Varane. He hasn't reached his peak yet and could easily be there main CB for the next 5-7 years.

He'd fit the role we supposedly look at with regards a back up striker.

29, 61 goals in 61 league games, would be coming from Sporting so either free or cheap, depending on what's happening there. Big target man and probably willing to be a bench player.

Sporting are suing clubs that sign their players for free, and most seem to just be negotiating lower fees for them.

First press conference today at 5 anyway. As usual I don't expect to find out anything just it will be the usual generic stuff.

I'd expect a dig or two at the transfer work not done if Jose is genuinely annoyed. Be interesting to gauge his reaction.

I dunno I think too much is made from his comments no matter what he says it will be twisted as a digg

Not quite "preparing a bid" but "considering a bid for Lewandowski and Thiago from Bayern'.

Don't believe we'd want either tbh.

Lewandowski would need an utter change in formations, as would Thiago. You'd need to switch to a mid diamond to facilitate both.
    Lewandowski - Lukaku
    Pogba
    Thiago - Fred
    Matic

Which would mean a new LB as well.

    Totally disagree.

United continuing with players not at the level needed is why were are where we are, not lack of continuity

Our back line is players that were here when Fergie left - what more continuity do you want?

As for our defensive record... i've been through that one before. It is not a reflection on either the quality of our defenders or their defensive play. It is as a result of having the best keeper in the league and a side that is generally set up to be very slow paced and conservative.

If Jose considers that Young and Valencia, flanking Smalling and Jones, is good enough to win the league or the CL, then he should be immediately fired because he has no idea the level of football required to win either anymore.

Maybe Thiago, but certainly not Lewandowski.

Oh god no, think of the all the groans as Fellaini and Dost are waiting to come on in the 80th minute to try and get a goal for us.

I get the size comparisons to Lukaku but at least Rom has pace and a bit more about him. Dost to me is the quintessential stand in the box and we'll work the ball wide and pump crosses into you player, not something I think we're particularly set up for.

And did I mention Fellaini + Dost and balls being pumped from the halfway line to the corner of the box does not make for a particularly appealing sight..........

Anyway, it's not going to happen.

Nice to see videos to back up the reports from French media claiming he had become a leader in the dressing room. I know a lot of people weren't convinced the reports were true.
