Given the sizeable Brazilian community living here, I'm really surprised there is still no sign of a direct flight from Dublin to São Paulo.

Too price sensitive. Also, the one's that are here don't travel back every year. I would guess that the volume just isn't there, given the other options.

Is Dublin - Brazil the new Dublin - Las Vegas?

Pretty much. It’ll JoBurg next or Mumbai.

Not sure how I feel about a Joburg flight. Im from Cape Town and would rather connect in nearly any other airport than Joburg.
If only for the reason of having to clear immigration and collect your bags in Joburg and re-check for your next leg.
Joburg is the only viable airport in SA though.
But who would offer this route? Only Aer Lingus or SAA possibilities, and SAA in no state to run their current routes not to mention new routes.
No tourist visa requirements for SA or Irish nationals between the 2 countries makes that 1 less hurdle at least.

    I thought Vegas was next...

    I thought Vegas was next...

Nope. The Irish media got all excited about Vegas purely based on a 1 line answer from their CEO to a question from a journo.
At the Philly route launch their COO expanded on that by saying that Vegas was one of approx a dozen cities that they were looking at. He stated that they would start whichever made the most sense, not that they had an order in mind.

You’d have to imagine they do have an order in mind though wouldn’t you?

I’m sure they have a list based on potential return on investment. Maybe they are looking at route subsidy or aircraft availability to pull the trigger on routes on this wishlist. They stated a few weeks ago that they are in contact with 20+ US cities regarding new routes.

Prob not going to happen but Would be good to see a Dublin direct route to Texas Dallas or Houston maybe .Aer lingus doesnt really serve that part of the states .anybody any thoughts on this ?

I’d say it’s high on the list for A330. If they joins OW I’d say DFW would jump to the top of the list.

Dallas has been long rumoured so I think it’s probably one of the more likely destinations to be announced in the near future.

I don’t think anybody expected to see Aer Lingus flying to Seattle so soon but here we are! I don’t think anywhere in North America is completely off the table.

BA does though, big time, so I would imagine IAG would prevent Aer Lingus from competing.

That said, the Austin - Heathrow flight is getting incredibly busy apparently so maybe a Dublin to Austin route could be on a possibility. It would make Ireland even more attractive to Dell as well.

If EI join the BA/AA/IB/AY transatlantic JV then DFW would be a fairly useful destination, the article here seems to think it's a strong possibility: https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/obligation-driving-aer-lingus-membership-in-transatl-447215/

If EI were to continue their alliance with United then IAH would be a better option, but that would be significantly in conflict if they were to pair up with AA.

LH go from 4 to 5 daily DUB-FRA starting in October. Between EI/FR/LH there will be x10 daily departures certain days.

Thats insane. Id see one airline pulling out at least a frequencie probably Aer Lingus. I wonder if the traffic for connections to the US is that intense via Dublin.

EI have added extra capacity and won't pull out. LH likely want to try pressure FR out of FRA and on a route like DUB-FRA its very unlikely FR will crack.

Until LH can compete with FR on price FR will always have a market

Is this move to suit more connections?

They are offering flights for 28 euro over winter, FR are between 22 and 40 and LH include snacks and drinks.

Im sure connections will benefit but they are taking a point to point fight to FR and EI.

Presumably, LH see possibilities in connection traffic to Asia.

Well as an Irish airline, snakes are off for Ryanair.

LH and KL in particular seem to have rapidly increasing passenger numbers at Dublin. I flew to FRA recently on the new 9 am LH flight and there wasn't a single free seat.

Wonder what the load figures are since this route opened?

Apparently very healthy with talks of it being increased to 6 weekly or potentially daily depending on fleet availability for next summer.

Excluding North America and Europe what route would have the most potential for EI to start?

None imo. EI are doing well focusing on North America, with previous attempt at DXB, I don't see them bothering.

I understand the current business model and focus is on North America and the failure of DXB but the question I'm asking, even though it's unlikely anytime soon, is if they were to look outside of North America and Europe what route would be viable or have the most potential of happening.

I would personally love something direct into Mumbai and Cairo.

The most likely options would be one of the big indian airports like mumbai or tokyo in my opinion. China would have been very likely but now is comparitively well served. Bangkok is a distinct possibility as well given all the consistent holiday traffic to that part of the world, but perhaps this ship has sailed with a lot of the middle eastern carriers doing this route via their hubs.

I can see Rio or Sao Paolo being offered from Dublin at some point in the next ten to fifteen years, given the massive and growing brazilian population in addition to the potential business and tourist community. Good hubs for onward travel to santiago, ba or lima etc. Think it's a bit soon yet and couldn't see it being Aer Lingus. Cape Town or Joburg would be an earner at least on a seasonal basis but this might be too soon as well. I know Turkish Airlines were keen on a Mexico City route so Aer Lingus could get in before them and possibly use this as a springboard. Dublin-Mexico City- Panama City could be an interesting one.

Mumbai or Tokyo most likely in my opinion.

Hard to imagine from the days of a single midday LH flight and two EI flights each day which was the model for years!

Have LH gone public on the fifth flight - what are the timings like?

Not sure if they have official announced as I think it was only added in the last week or two.

    Ex DUB 04.55, 08.25, 11.50 14.00 (new), 17.50
    Ex FRA 06.35, 09.50, 12.10 (new), 16.10, 21.30
