Sorry, maybe poor choice of words. What I mean is, maybe the lack of huge investment is part of a longer game, consciously or sub consciously by the club as they don’t really expect Jose to there the following season.

As I said probably tin foil hat territory but sure I’m in a sharing mood. :o

It's been the word on the street in Manchester for a while.City running away with the league and United lacking flair in their play has not sat well over there. Not saying anything will happen but don't be shocked if it does.

That's probably the primary reason mind you.

Talk ive seen is simply United had no interest at the money his camp wanted.

Well Fred’s an investment alright. Getting a current player to sign a new contract would have no reflection on the status of the manager imo

The other signing is a kid who has barley played any top flight football so a signing for the future either way. I’d be surprised if he featured much at all next season.

Going to effort to keep Fellaini, a player favoured by the manager, does suggest they are listening to Jose.

As does the spend on Dalot, who as you point out, is not likely to play a lot in the coming season. Why would United let a manager they have doubts about make choices about players for the future?

With Fred, as well as that inveatment, they have now bought Jose an entire midfield in three summers.

I see more slow progress than a board not backing their coach.

Dalot could be a scouting dept signin

In terms of the transfers this summer, I’m choosing to see it as the first season since SAF left, that the club and manager are actually harmonized and relatively content with the squad. They feel that the boat is steering in the right direction and are comfortable with their strategy.

Perhaps the club is finally settling down to a more balanced transfer strategy.

I don’t think funds are not available or that the club won’t buy who Jose wants. I would take it that they will only buy primary targets and what’s needed which is more that can be said for some seasons. I think it’s potentially a signal of the club finally stabilizing!!

Rio was doing the same on the BBC. Lots of clips of how he closed down Brazilian players and nullified their attacks then gave the ball to the flair players to go and attack.

It could be anything but no point twisting the entire thing into a negative?

    The facts are

The manager has signed a new contract.

He has renewed a player a contract that he likes.

He has spent 70 million on a top class central midfielder and a promising young right back

And there is one month left in the window.

That's pretty mumuch the facts we can spin them any way at all but it still doesn't change that everything points to the club and manager been committed.

If we fail this season that could and should change but right now I expect at least another two major signings to come in.

Yeah, all I've seen is that the club are backing mourinho.

They're just not being as quick as he'd like in actioning that support to signings and sales.

Tbf the one he shot across, commentary made it seem he had more time, I don't think he did and I felt he was right to shoot

And I've been very critical of him

Fellaini needs to pass better to Lukaku Hazzard greedy like you'd come to expect he needs to pass to someone anyone in a better position.

Ronnie is great, and I'd have loved him back.

But he's a left wing player transitioning into a striker. The two positions we are probably strongest in. It would be signing a player not because he fits the team or the holes in it, but because he was a big name. I thought thats what we wanted to move away from?

Lukaku is proving himself at the World Cup, and will be our main striker for years to come. LW, we have Sanchez, Rashford and Martial, and are probably moving on one of them already.

Spending 100m and wages on a Ronaldo would have been entirely a heart over head signing. While I'd have loved him, he wouldn't have strengthened the squad in the manner we need, sadly

I'll admit, I am a little surprised at the speed of transfers this summer. I do think the overall market has been stagnant up to now though, and if we are after Toby and Mandzukic, for instance, the WC plays its part. If we are after Sandro, I'd expect movement quicker now. I'd guess interest in Bale wou.d have been stalled by Ronaldo and by the managerial situation there.

United are to get a £3 million cut of the Ronaldo to Juventus fee, due to United signing him as an 18 year old.

Don’t think it’s tinfoil hat territory at all.

This is the season where Mouringo normally implodes. He hasn’t been anywere near meeting requirements in his time thus far so unless this is now a buck of the trend , history would indicate he’s on the slide. He does his best work early before he burns all his bridges and the squad become irritated and tired of him.

We can only truely judge the situation end of window. There is time left. I wouldn’t be overly concerned until end of the window when I can stand back and take a full view.

But I totally get where you are coming from. Why break the bank for a manager that normally leaves or wrecks the gaf in his third season or a manager that in his two seasons thus far has shown so no real sign of achieving the main goal.

World Cup has totally masked the United situation for me. I’ve basically forgotten about it all. But today brought it all into sharp focus with the Ronaldo news. And as yourself , I’m hoping for a big surprise because I expect another grinding infuriating season until hes sacked at some point.

    Back, sack or crack.

Back the manager to suceed. Buy what is needed with the funds available.

Sack. If you are not prepared to do it, sack him.

Crack. Anything else is half arsed and things will crack anyway

The players at the club are good enough. It's getting them to play well together that has been the problem. Lukaku in his 2nd season should improve and with Pogba being given more freedom that should translate into more creativity. Sanchez, as angry as I was with him should hopefully show improvement and be the player that he can be. Rashford and Martial another year older and can potentially offer a lot more.

There's talent strewn throughout the team that showed what they could do in the run of big games in the 2nd half of the season, bar the obvious Sevilla games that would lead me to believe there will be an improvement regardless of uprooting half the team as people seem to be suggesting.
