I don't know how to feel about Ronaldo moving to Juventus.

I know it's a bit "will you grow up" but I think the club would do wise to have Ed or someone have a little improntu interview, to allooowww themselves get asked to say "Yes we made an offer that was acceptable to Madrid, but Cristiano wants to go to Italy to win titles there"

Even though it's absolutely nothing to do with us, I can imagine there been some big backlash.

Recency bias always wins out in the transfer window.

Re-sign Fellaini so no new midfielder -> Journeyman 3rd choice goalkeeper -> Ronaldo moves to Juventus , will have fans in a tizzy.

And a part of me probably understands, and potentially feels the same too. There has been some big moves talked about this summer, waiting for the WC to finish and some chips to fall into line for some big moves to happen. And literally one of them seriously linked with ourselves.

Anybody got any insight into why united didn’t sign him? I’m not complaining, I’m just a bit surprised given the fact he’s still an exceptional player with zero sign of his quality lowering and to be frank he would prob guarantee a league or champions league on his own. His marketability isn’t bad either.

Only thing I can think of is age but like I said he still looks amazing and in great shape and has always looked after him.....

He's a clever guy. I think he realises that "going back" rarely to never works out.

He has incredible success, memories, titles and love from United and the fans, so why even jeapordise it.

I think he also realises that from a personal perspective, he's probably on track to being recognised as the greatest of all time. Going to Italy, set some personal records, win some Serie A titles and whatever else, and it starts to become a mute arguement.

I don't normally divulge into the Messi vs Ronaldo thing, always saying I'll wait till they retire and we will know, but for me its becoming clear who it is going to be. And that could be a driver for it too.

Id say Mourinho being at United had a big thing to do with it

Pity we didn't get him back, had we not signed Alexis he could well be at Old Trafford now, which is sobering when you consider Sanchez's less than stellar performances so far.
Unless Sanchez starts setting the league on fire next season he could become a pariah in light of Ronaldo's availability this summer.
There's also a part of me that thinks Ronaldo maybe didn't relish the prospect of fighting off Guardiola's City side or being kicked off the pitch every week, his style of play a has changed since his time at United and maybe doesn't suit the premier league anymore.
Anyway, it's put to bed at last, no more rumors of Ronaldo's return going forward, hopefully we can build a side that can push on and challenge for titles, 5 years have passed since Fergie left, we need to stop the rot and fast.

Just saying here to a fella, if it was an option and I was asked.

Sign Ronaldo and send Sanchez to Juventus.

That lad needs to have an absolute quality season. We'll never actually know the details but it's not a massive stretch to consider we may have not being interested because with Sanchez in the ranks Ronaldo becomes impossible for squad balance and harmony.

Which is infuriating to think its even a slight possibility.

That's probably the primary reason mind you.

Presumably yer all Juventus fans now! :)

You lads have an awful obsession with United fans and their opinions on Ronaldo.

    Its properly stalkerish.
His 10 year loan from United to Madrid is up, United will now loan him to Juventus :)

    Ronaldo is a clever boy,
He has gone to a big club that will be almost guaranteed another league title with ,Who are so far ahead of the rest of the teams he will 100% score goals., That a always do well in the Champions league .
If he went to United he'd be going back into a totally unforgiving league at the back end of his career where success would not be guaranteed and he good turn out to be a failure or even end the season out of the first 11.,
Juve and Italy is the easy option for him

No offence to Utd but they currently cannot claim to be one of the big boys so there is not reason Ronaldo would go back there.

He's arguably the greatest of all time.

He won everything there was to be won at United.

He left the club on good terms and has consistently spoke glowingly of his time at the club.

Not really a surprise that alot of United fans have followed his career I would have thought but it seems, around these parts at least, its used by certain people as an attempt to give a bit of needle to United fans.

    I dont get it.

Ronaldo does nothing easy. Pushes himself to be the best around.

Juventus are a massive club, he will be targeting a treble in italy next season no doubt and break even more records

Tbh I doubt United would be giving him a 4 year contract worth 30m net a year.. he probably got the best deal he could get at Juve in a decent enough leagie

I know that’s there is still a few weeks of the window to go but I do wonder if the lack of big signings may be part of the narrative of Mourinhos departure in the next few months or so?

I think most would agree that next season is make or break for him and a serious title challenge is a minimum or he’s out the door. Maybe the board don’t have full confidence it can be achieved or are unwilling to spend big on a one season gamble?

I’m probably veering into tin foil hat territory but just thinking out loud here.

They extended his contract a few months ago of course they will back him. We have already spent 70 million this window.

Also have to say it’s the least I’ve been excited about a coming season in many a year.

Despite finishing second(I keep pinching myself to remind myself that that happened) there has been very little sign of the progress we would like to see. There’s no denying there has been progress and I feel we had a couple of false dawns in the last couple of years.

The squad seem a long way from having what it takes and the manager overcompensates for this and puts the brakes on the team too often.

Finishing second lulls me into a false sense of security. Then I remind myself of the last game of the season, the fa cup final and the pathetic effort that Utd put in and I reminded instantly how far off the pace this squad is.

I feel next season will end up just getting through the season before Mourinhos departure.

Unless there is some serious investment in the next few weeks I feel we are in again for another season of disappointment and mostly boring football.

I don't think the two signings or re-signing of Fellaini point to a lack of faith in the manager.

Sorry, maybe poor choice of words. What I mean is, maybe the lack of huge investment is part of a longer game, consciously or sub consciously by the club as they don’t really expect Jose to there the following season.

As I said probably tin foil hat territory but sure I’m in a sharing mood. :o

Well Fred’s an investment alright. Getting a current player to sign a new contract would have no reflection on the status of the manager imo

The other signing is a kid who has barley played any top flight football so a signing for the future either way. I’d be surprised if he featured much at all next season.

Pretty sure it’s legit and just like Simon Stones they are unverified. Not everyone has to be verified to be legit tbf

I dunno why people seem to be expecting Dalot to be a regular. He seems like one for the future than a first team regular, at least next year anyway.

I'll eat a hat if José isn't our manager going into the 19/20 season.

No sweat, I was just wondering if I missed some links with Jose to another club.

As for your first paragraph, I said/wondered as much in the run up to the Summer - How willing will the club be to back a manager who could be already 2/3s the way through his time at the club?

I'd like to think that we'll get another 2 seasons out of Jose at least, and that he will be backed fully in the next few weeks.

I would of loved Ronaldo but there is only a few weeks left and we still need a defence be it bought or developed.

Current players aren't good enough to win the league.

Players who are no longer title quality.
    Valencia not good enough
    Darmian never good enough
Smalling I really don't rate him
    Blind not good enough
Rojo want to like him but ain't good enough
    Young not a bad backup
Shaw unless he gets his act together
Bailly too injury prone but I rate him highly
Jones maybe OK as a back up

Few weeks left now and the clock is ticking to get it sorted. If we don't we will be lucky to finish 2nd.

Hopefully Dalot and Fosu-Mensah shine this season.
