So this just went up on a sign beside the Huntsman....

“Yeats College intend to apply for planning permission at Lough Atalia, Dublin Road for construction of an amphi-theatre & sports facilities incorporating sheltered seating and a “stage” podium building as a multi-use performance space, with toilets & changing facilities incorporated below the tiered amphi-theatre seating, also grass sports field areas including a kerbed 250m running track, a set down area off the Dublin Road and all associated site services including lighting, landscaping & signage.

OK, if I try to imagine somebody lifting the sports arena in Athlone IT and plumping it there, I can't see it fitting without some attempt to reclaim land from the tidal lake. Surely there's a cheaper plot of land to develop somewhere?

This seems an odd one, where exactly is it going. Behind the houses/beside Huntsman, so between the path and the water. That'll never fit there, Shirley.

In the greater scheme of things; the Docks redevelopment, student accommodation, Bonham Quay etc, it isn’t such a mad idea. The current City Development Plan will accommodate it, anyway.
