    Hi everyone,

Looking for some opinions about what you'd do in my situation. Have a 2011 Renault Megane, 128k km on the clock, going well up to recently, 1.5 diesel (I bought it in 2012 when I was doing big enough mileage but that's less now). 3 months ago I'd to spend €600 on a new injector and then a few days ago it went into limp mode again, engine lights on etc. All the garage did this time was reset the error codes etc and said to monitor it.

Basically, I’m really losing faith in the car and I’m nervous I’m going to have to end up replacing more injectors at some stage soon. It mainly is long motorway journeys maybe twice a month and then around town a few nights a week.

Would you hold onto it (better the devil you know etc) or make the move before it costs me more?

If switching I’d be looking at spending maybe €10/12k plus whatever I get for the Megane (what do I tell the garage about the most recent limp?!).

If I was changing I’d be aiming for something around 2015/2016 maybe with a view to holding onto it for 6 years. Just on a whim I look at a Pug 508. I’m also interested in Lexus IS or CT, Merc C-Class, VW CC but that’s just really cars I like the look of. Renault garage had new Megane and Kadjar too that looked decent. Any other perspective on this thinking would be welcome!

Looking for something reliable, comfortable, decent interior and spec and that’s big enough for what might happen in a few years (might have kids etc).

Any thoughts welcome – sorry for the ramble!

I think the car you have is the devil you don't know. If you don't have faith in it then it's time for change.

I have a 508 (old shape) and it's a great big car, lovely and comfortable on the motorway. It's a bit of a pain around town with it being so long. I haven't had major trouble with it, slave cylinder went at 120k km that's about it, but things break on cars.

If you fancy a new car and want an excuse to change then this could be it.

Spending €12k to avoid the potential inconvenience of a €600 repair does seem a bit hasty though.

I am all for the devil you know but you'd probably get a good trade-in deal on it.

Not even sure what one of those is to be honest, depending on pug 508s I was being offered €5000 or €5500 (without them knowing the engine issue, and it having a cosmetic dent on the side that needs to be pulled out!)

€600 for a new injector seems like a lot for one of these even with labour and vat.

Yeah, didn’t have much choice as it happened down the country but from the calling around I could do then it wasn’t too off the wall. Haven’t gotten quotes in Dublin though for if it happens again.
