Have heard two official names that are in so far are, John Allen (Cork) and DJ Carey (Kilkenny). Have they not set up a sub committee like they done when selecting Derek McGrath, I thought that was the plan.

Big names there but hard to knw if true

John Allen had a decent run with Limerick a few years ago and could be a good man for the job and would not have his eye on the cork job cause hes been there done that . DJ had done pretty well with Carlow IT but the Kilkenny under 21s struggled a bit this year. In truth he could have his eye on the Kilkenny senior job, same with Cummins recording the Tipp job

There is a rumour going around that Michael Ryan is going to fund Anthony Daly even though Daly ruled himself out in the paper last week. I would say we will hear a lot of names been thrown around

I would think it’s Michael Ryan of Fred Forsey fame.

How are these names in? not being funny, but what is the process? How does one apply? who is on the selection committee?

I've noticed the son of a prominent co board member who is a very active on twitter seems to spend his days searching for any tweets or comments that are in anyway directly or indirectly derogatory towards the county board and the Walsh Park proposal and responding and challenging these comments. Hed be aswell off keep is head low instead of trying to justify years of incompetency and mismanagement

    What is the twitter handle?

It is unbelievable, there is a real rally the troops attitude from the county board. Get all the minions out on social meejah defending them.

If what Cullen said is true (don't see why he would bother his arse lying 13 years later) then they should be removed from power immediately.

I can see why the county board would want to discredit this story as it was the same duo, the real brains of Waterford gaa that were in power then as they are now.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out, but from what I can see they lost all credibility long before this most recent circus.

The worst part is that the same lads are there 13 years later!

I really don't like heading to Walsh Park for games if I'm honest, parking is ****e for club games never mind county and there's no craic before or after games cos there's no focal point to head to. Compare it to Thurles, similar ****e parking, but the square is good craic before and after games. Fraher field could be something similar if done right, could even have city lads wander down the greenway to it. I wouldn't have any issue bringing the sprogs there as at least they get a day out instead of a miserable day trudging to a bleak dump of a ground with zero going for it.

No focal point. The applemarket is only 1.5km away, a 20minute walk at most. As another poster suggested even head up to mount sion. The sprogs could puck around the pitch or play pool in the club house and you could have yourself a mineral or a pint. Easy parking and short walk.
I remember the first time I was brought to Thurles for a Munster final, it was class. The colour in the square and the craic beforehand was brilliant, then the crowd and the noise when I was standing on a paint can in the terrace was phenomenal.  You knew it was a big occasion. Couldn't tell you the first time I was in Walsh park other than that it was raining and I was covered in mud coming out. Walsh park isn't capable of blowing yer mind in the same way if you know what I mean, giving them a packet of crisps and a euro for a game of pool isn't going to inspire them or make them want to keep going.

It’s more likely Michael Ryan of “Al Eile” and “Finsceal Beo” fame ; a gentleman and keen Waterford supporter.

Fair play to them and I hope they enjoy their break, well deserved. Paddy Curran was very poorly utilised by McGrath and might as well have gone off the panel at the start of the year. In my eyes he is our most talented forward with ball in hand but Derek was intent on turning him into a carthorse ala poor Jake Dillon. Any half decent coach with a grasp of attacking hurling would be thrilled to have Paddy available.

CLG Port Lairge - Waterford GAA have submitted their planning application to Waterford Council for the redevelopment of Walsh Park. The following images were presented to a number of councillors last week. The proposal is for a covered terrace of 5240, uncovered bucket seating of 4430 & 5,000 plus covered bucket seating in the existing stand. The need to have a robust traffic management plan not only for potential big Munster Championship fixtures but for club games was stressed to the county board officials!

Planning application can be found on the following link & documents will be uploaded soon... http://www.eplanning.ie/WaterfordCCC/AppFileRefDetails/18448/0

Doesnt look bad to be fair and it's doubtful we would ever get big neutral games as were geographical challenged (Possibly could host Wexford vs Kilkenny)

I said it before it only takes one objection to mess it all up

Its grand except for the city end terrace. Do we need that building right up against the pitch where a possible extra terrace or stand could go? Is this where the fat cats of the county board will eat their prawn sandwiches!

Could they not have whatever offices, etc up where the dressing rooms currently are even if meant building a 4/5 story building or would that not get through planning?

They should be maximising the very limited space by building up. I mean am i right in saying there are car parking spots right next to the pitch in the lower right corner of the plan view? Whatever about needing buses to be able to disembark players without mixing with public, surely the County board don't need to park their cars next to the pitch!

With some tightening up and common sense could easily acommadate an extra couple of thousand supporters!

My thoughts exactly. Or just put the county board HQ elsewhere!!

We are not that geographically challenged..we could get the following games where a neutral ground is required for whatever reason in either code. Some games obviously more of a possibility than others.

    Cork-Kilkenny
    Cork-Tipperary
    Cork-Wexford
    Cork-Wicklow
    Cork-Carlow
    Cork-Kildare
    Cork-Laois
    Wexford-Tipperary
    Wexford-Clare
    Wexford-Limerick
    Wexford-Kerry
    Wexford-Carlow
    Kilkenny-Tipperary

Is that the county board HQ? That doesn't need to be pitchside! They could build that in Fraher field where there is is no space issue.

Even if they do need it in Walsh park why not shunt it down where the car park spaces are and build a better terrace behind to hold an extra couple of thousand fans.

Knowing some of the county board I can just hear the conversation with them pointing out the need to park beside the pitch rather than mingle with the peasants outside!

It's like they decided their big fancy building and car park first, then when they were happy they had what they wanted they went about looking at where they could fit in the ordinary fans!

The building at the city end is dressing rooms and offices.

Why not demolish the awful stand which currently exists, build it steeper and incorporate dressing rooms/offices underneath as has been done in the RSC.

Then further terracing could be placed at the city end.

Also there is a massive amount of wasted space in each corner. Why not also fill in these areas and we could be hitting 20/22k capacity

Unfortunately we'll get fair few or none of those fixtures

    Cork-Kilkenny (thurles)
    Cork-Tipperary (possibly, probably limerick)
    Cork-Wexford (thurles/Kilkenny)
    Cork-Wicklow (thurles)
    Cork-Carlow (thurles/kilkenny/ port laoise)
    Cork-Kildare (thurles)
    Cork-Laois (thurles/kilkenny)

    Wexford-Clare (thurles)
    Wexford-Limerick(thurles)
    Wexford-Kerry(cork)
    Wexford-Carlow(kilkenny/port laoise)
Kilkenny-Tipperary(our best bet but probably, port laoise or cork)

If any of those are football fixtures they won't come us or even thurles. If they are hurling fixtures, a lot of those fixtures would be looking at 35k+ grounds

No argument from me there. If we had a stadium with adequate capacity for all those matches then that's a different story. I don't think we should build a 35-40k stadium to cater for the rare time one of those matches came along. I was debating it purely on our geographical position. We are not as isolated as some people think.

We are isolated in Munster to an extent with the exception of tipp v cork but they have a home/away agreement for a number of years.

Fully agree with your point regarding Thurles. I don't think anywhere in the country comes near or ever will come near thurles.

Its the Mecca for hurling fans. As a child I wanted to play there before croke park.

Although some of my best memories as a child following waterford involved a bag of Tayto Smokey bacon and a game of pool.

Following the under-21's in the early 90's and stopping in the likes of kilsheelan, leamybrien, fermoy by far were some of my best memories.

About 30 friends, family and club members all oit for the day. What generally keeps kids going is the day out and if the team is performing well.

That’s fair enough and it’s based on your experiences. The onus is on us as supporters to fight to ensure we influence the experience that we give to our kids and future players, supporters, officials etc. Granted not easy, but we can start a mindset movement, can’t we?

I'm sure we can. Also kids perception is far different to ours. I remember the first time I took to the field in Walsh Park and marched behind the band, think it was an under 12 game.

To me walsh park was this big huge ground and was packed. We had the green shed as a stand and grass banks while most likely only a hand full of parents where there!

Growing up this is where the minor, u21 and senior players played big club games and here was me on the very same pitch, jersey probably to big on me, the worst looking helmet in the world but I had made it.

Life was so much simpler back then. Everything is bigger as a child and if we as parents can enhance their experience then they will have great memories and will want to represent their county.

A very own Michael Ryan has called time on his run as Westmeath Manager. Although they didn't win any trophies he done a great job

I wonder will he try for the Waterford job again ?? Id be very surprised Tbh
