DJ had done pretty well with Carlow IT but the Kilkenny under 21s struggled a bit this year. In truth he could have his eye on the Kilkenny senior job, same with Cummins recording the Tipp job

Compare it to Thurles, similar ****e parking, but the square is good craic before and after games. Fraher field could be something similar if done right, could even have city lads wander down the greenway to it. I wouldn't have any issue bringing the sprogs there as at least they get a day out instead of a miserable day trudging to a bleak dump of a ground with zero going for it. No focal point. The applemarket is only 1.5km away, a 20minute walk at most. As another poster suggested even head up to mount sion. The sprogs could puck around the pitch or play pool in the club house and you could have yourself a mineral or a pint. Easy parking and short walk.

Is this where the fat cats of the county board will eat their prawn sandwiches! Could they not have whatever offices, etc up where the dressing rooms currently are even if meant building a 4/5 story building or would that not get through planning? They should be maximising the very limited space by building up. I mean am i right in saying there are car parking spots right next to the pitch in the lower right corner of the plan view? Whatever about needing buses to be able to disembark players without mixing with public, surely the County board don't need to park their cars next to the pitch! With some tightening up and common sense could easily acommadate an extra couple of thousand supporters!

Teebor15 wrote: » Is that the county board HQ? That doesn't need to be pitchside! They could build that in Fraher field where there is is no space issue. Even if they do need it in Walsh park why not shunt it down where the car park spaces are and build a better terrace behind to hold an extra couple of thousand fans. Knowing some of the county board I can just hear the conversation with them pointing out the need to park beside the pitch rather than mingle with the peasants outside! It's like they decided their big fancy building and car park first, then when they were happy they had what they wanted they went about looking at where they could fit in the ordinary fans!

If they are hurling fixtures, a lot of those fixtures would be looking at 35k+ grounds
Teebor15 wrote: » No argument from me there. If we had a stadium with adequate capacity for all those matches then that's a different story. I don't think we should build a 35-40k stadium to cater for the rare time one of those matches came along. I was debating it purely on our geographical position. We are not as isolated as some people think.

The colour in the square and the craic beforehand was brilliant, then the crowd and the noise when I was standing on a paint can in the terrace was phenomenal. You knew it was a big occasion. Couldn't tell you the first time I was in Walsh park other than that it was raining and I was covered in mud coming out. Walsh park isn't capable of blowing yer mind in the same way if you know what I mean, giving them a packet of crisps and a euro for a game of pool isn't going to inspire them or make them want to keep going.

As a child I wanted to play there before croke park. Although some of my best memories as a child following waterford involved a bag of Tayto Smokey bacon and a game of pool. Following the under-21's in the early 90's and stopping in the likes of kilsheelan, leamybrien, fermoy by far were some of my best memories. About 30 friends, family and club members all oit for the day. What generally keeps kids going is the day out and if the team is performing well.
