Just saw on FB that Huckleberrys are done.
That's a shame. I'm not into the doughnut thing, but I hope they didn't lose their shirts and can start something else.

He'll start something else no doubt, he seems pretty savvy. Good luck to him.

The Donut shack appear to be doing something right, they're opening on O'Connell St. in Limerick too..

Just wondering has anyone any recommendations for quirky or unusual spots in or preferably around county cork. Like The Fish Basket or The workshop, Skinnys in Bally cotton, Divas bakery, toonsbridge dairy etc. Cafes, chip vans anything

Suggest Toonsbridge cafe. On the Macroom - Inchigeelagh road. Only open at weekends. Haven't been in a good while.
    Great idea Timtim.

Great spot, hopefully there is a few hidden gems out there. With all this good weather it's great to go for a drive or walk to somewhere new.

M/s Dodog, she used to run a shack in the West Cork Technology Park. Must call to Courtmac to try that.

Anybody try the vegan pop-up food in Gael Taca? Near Quay Co-op.

I had lunch in Bernies Café right at the top of Sheep's Head last week. Picnic tables outside - no better view to be had.

I just got back from a trip to Glandore.

On the way we passed a quirky looking cafe called Rohu's in Inishannon. This is probably what you're looking for. Like a little English Market kind of place, and the cafe has no front wall. So it's open to the street and you can see all the way inside. Looked like a really nice and local spot.

    Here it is: https://goo.gl/maps/tLuS8QfY9wH2

There's a not very quirky but very nice pub with great views of the harbour in Glandore called Hayes. As I was leaving there was a band setting up ON THE STREET just outside the pub. Seemed like a great spot for an evening pint. Daytime/Lunch would probably be a better option if you're looking for something romantic. But if you don't care about that, evening seemed like good craic. All seats outside have parasols too.

Think Bulmans in Kinsale of a summer's eve sort of vibe: https://goo.gl/maps/vtLQVJQ3fG72

Finally got to Iyers and so glad I did, had amazing samosas, mushroom pakora and dosas. All of them came with really good dips and sauces. Cheap, great, super nice service. Nothing but good things to say!

    How much did you pay?

I've only eaten there twice, but it's lovely, and very authentic )and therefore a little different to most take away Indian). I seem to recall a 'main' and a drink being around a tenner? Staff are friendly and will advise on the options and specials.

This is one of the best bars for lunch in Cork on a sunny day, just because the views are lovely and Glandore always has a chilled out vibe. If you;re in the area, check out the Drombeg stone circle too.

Just a word or warning if you're expecting artisan or boutique coffee with your meal or dessert in Rohus because I got caught a few months back, they only serve Nespresso so don't be expecting a 3fe or Badger Dodo blend.

Looks like a roadtrip to west cork is on the cards, thanks a million for all the recommendations. Just to clarify, not looking for just romantic or date spots but anywhere at all, city or county, chips to cake, tea to tacos. Cafes, pubs, chip vans, food trucks etc. Places outside of the norm, The Puffin outside clonakilty has been on the cards if anyone has been.

Hoping to treat the lady to dinner tonight in the city to celebrate

Have been to Jacobs on the mall recently & we tend to frequent Isaacs a good bit too, wondering if people can give me some recommendations on the fly as my mind is blank at the moment trying to think of a place. Haven't tried Greenes myself but a quiet, romantic sit down elsewhere in the city/suburbs?

Is that on Bridge Street? Can't see FB @ work but been meaning to try it.

Went for Cornstore for an aul reliable, we've only been there once and she loved the mushroom ravioli there so figure that'll do the business this evening :)

For a night out just the two of us... the unfortunately named Spitjack is excellent. Or Elbow lane, perched at the bar. Or The fishbar in Electric.

I was going to say Greene's all the way if posher is what you're looking for, with a cocktail before in Cask. Or Les Gourmandaise if you are splashin' the cash. Docklands is more relaxed, but the food is great.

I've had some miserable experiences in Cornstore, but was unlucky possibly. Enjoy!

I've yet to go to Elbow Lane which is well documented here, also, she knows I'm dying to go there, so if we went....it's me treating me! :pac:

Didn't like the look of the menu at Greenes for a nice midweek dinner, maybe a fancier occasion but we'd a nice meal for my birthday a while back in Cornstore so figure we'll go again. I am disappointed I didn't think of Docklands, only been once for tapas and loved it, must really go back again soon.

I must try Docklands! I keep forgetting it exists when I'm thinking of where to go.

I do love the fish bar in Electric, but in the past we'd fall back on Electric itself if no tables were available, but the last couple of times I was there, I was NOT impressed with Electric.

    How much did you pay?

We had 2 dosas and 2 side dishes between two people, and paid slightly below €25.

Anyone been to Good Day Deli, Nano Nagle Gardens, Douglas? I have been but I'm interested to know what people thought. I liked the food, the glass building and gardens are fab and I think it's a great money maker business for the owners but I and my partner thought it was too busy (great for the business). We went for breakfast and it was expensive but nice for a treat. Maybe we'll try it for brunch but only sitting outside, seating was too near each other for our liking. But I would recommend it but it's not cheap (ingredients are organic so that's what you're paying for).

Is good day deli a vegetarian only spot?

Vegetarian only, but lovely. They do their own organic veggie burger topped with an organic fried egg, served with organic paprika aioli + hand cut Cork potato fries prepared every morning in their kitchen.
