Leinster open water swims

    I have heard of a few lake swims, but I think that in Leinster "open water" means the sea. What I'm asking is, are there any of these swims that don't require one to have a race license (or be part of a club)? And if so, how do you find out which ones don't require this.

    It seems to be a bit more simple in Muster, where some of the races don't require you to have a race license. And the calendar also gives the distances. This is handy, as I wouldn't being doing anything greater than 2km.

    Hi,

    all the races require you to be a member of Swim Ireland with a competition license.

    Most of the races are about 1500m - a small number are between 1500m and 2000m. Anything greater than that is usually identified - e.g the Lough Dan 10km...

    Hi,

    I joined last year, but only ended up doing one race. I forget how much I paid for it though. How much is it again??

    Joining might seem worth the price, but for all I know I might be injured in a few weeks!

    Maybe there's more that you can do in Munster with the license.

    The competition license is €50 from what I recall - but you may need to be a member of a club to get that license. There is also the possibility of Special Membership but I don't know how much that is and if it allows you access all the Leinster Open Sea races. http://www.swimireland.ie/membership/membership-options/special-membership

    Once you jump through all the Swim Ireland hoops the LoS races are something like €10 each.
