What happened to last year's star Minor Cooney? I saw him on the senior panel, they mustn't be releasing him for the under 20s. On a site note, I saw Ikem Ugweuru playing for Ennis Rugby a couple of times, the guy is going to be famous, gifted athlete.

Gavin Cooney cannot play U20 as he played in Clare's Munster Senior football championship matches against Limerick and Kerry. The rule is anyone that played for the senior team are ineligible for U20 selection.

    does he play any hurling.?

Wing back, but he tends to cover a lot of group. I think he plays hurling as well for Eire Og, but I'm not sure of how good they are at that age group, speaking to someone last night Eire Og's under 14 are the best team they've had for a while, they won the A championship last night.

I didn't know that was a rule, thanks for that.

Ya, silly rule for the 'weaker' counties.
Josh Ryan couldn't play for Limerick U20 last week V Kerry as he played the previous week for seniors V Mayo. A huge beast of a man (took both throw-ins from Aidan O'Shea with ease) and a player Limerick U20 badly needed.
Its ok for players like Clifford and Sean O'Shea for Kerry, they'll have a long season anyway with the seniors, but FFS a Limerick player...!!!!
Rule was brought in to appease the 'player burnout' campaigners.

The GAA got rid of one of the best competitions in the u21 instead of pushing third level competitions to November. These committees just to justify themselves altering minor and u21 grades.

In my opinion the GAA decided to ignore the real reason they were losing so many players between minor and under 21 so decided to make a change that no-one wanted or needed. In my opinion they should have jtweaked the minor to be under 18 and a half like the Harty but not allow any matches to take place before the leaving certificate had completed, having under 17s play 4 matches like the seniors is lunacy.

HT Munster U20 Football Championship semi-final

    Cork 1-7 Clare 0-9

Excellent performance by the Banner men so far. We were leading 0-6 to 0-2 midway through the 1st 30 mins. Great to see Clare being so competitive. Keep it up lads!!!!

    FT Cork 1-16 Clare 0-15

Fair dues to Seamus Clancy and his management team and the players also for delivering a huge performance in Pairc Ui Rinn tonight. They should be extremely proud of their efforts. Sadly though Clare will see no more action in the Munster U20 Football Championship. But so much to be positive about for the future. Hard luck lads.

some really good players to come out of that team , clancy has done huge work with the development squads in the last 5 years , we have produced some excellent young footballers from a fairly small pick , only positive is most of them players will still be available to the senior selection for the rest of the championship should we progress sunday

Bad weekend so far for the footballers, the under 17s were well beaten by Kerry, the under 20s were beaten as well but put on a far better display. Hopefully the seniors can get over Offaly today, there's a great chance for a super 8 appearance if we can get decent draw.

Lads where is Killian Roche - Cooraclare our sub goalie? Robert Eyres seemingly is our number 2 after coming on for 1st choice goalkeeper Eamonn Tubridy who got injured early in the 2nd half. Clare leading by 2 points after 12 mins in the 2nd half.

    Clare 1-19 Offaly 2-14

Fair dues to both teams on what was an great game of attacking football. Offaly have restored their pride after a troublesome few months for football in the county. But its Clare who go through to the next round of All-Ireland football qualifiers. The draw will be made tomorrow morning on Morning Ireland on RTE Radio 1 just after the 8:30 am news. Jamie Malone scored 1-4 in a brilliant performance by the Corofin man. While Kilrush's Gearoid O'Brien scored 2 crucial points from off the bench. What a weekend next we have. Footballers on Saturday and the hurlers in the Munster final on Sunday. Great times indeed.

    Mayo
    Monaghan
    Cavan
    Tyrone
    Kildare
    Armagh
    Leitrim
    Clare

That's the teams for the next round, you'd be confident against Armagh or Leitrim, hopeful against Kildare or Cavan and praying against the others. A home draw would be massive for us

Whilst acknowledging that David reidy rightfully got his red card rescinded, was there any result of Moloneys appeal??

    clare 1-19 offaly 2-14

any win is a good win when operating on the back of a 22 point defeat last time out , first half the home side started the better racing into a lead of 1-04 to 0-2 within the first 15 mins , clare gradually got back into the game over the next 5 and dominated the last 15 of the half , jamie malone rattled the crossbar and the post either side of finding the net on the on the 20 minute mark , from there on scores from malone eoin cleary and ciarian malone had clare in the driving seat and 3 points up , an eoin collins goal chance was intercepted at the last second on the 35 minute inside the offaly box which would have seen clare go out of sight at the break instead the home side broke down the field and won a penalty , in which goalkeeper alan mulhall converted

in the second half offaly came out in a new set of jerseys , and with that a new sense of belief , the introduction of peter cunningham caused clare huge problems in midfield , and for most of the half they were the better side , eoin cleary kicked two huge points along with a jamie malone effort had us 3 up again halfway through the second , offally fought back well keeping it to the minimum for most of the final quarter , but the introduction of gearoid o'brian and gavin cooney offered clare a foothold in the game after both kicked two excellent scores in the last 10 minutes , the unlikely hero at the end was kevin hartnett who fisted over the insurance point in injury time to seal the win

hartnet had been out all year and a huge loss to clare all year , performance wise , jamie malone and pearse lillis were our best operators along with cleary who kicked some excellent points , but worringly we had more joy on the offaly kick outs then we did with our own , things did not improve either when eamon tubridy went off injured and replaced by former kildare goalkeeper robert eyres , neither brennan or o'connor had there best days in open play today either lets hope its only a once off as they will be crucial next week

draw in the morning where we will face one of 7 from
    armagh
    tyrone
    mayo
    kildare
    cavan
    monaghan
    leitrim

clare are up to 9/14 wins in the qualifiers now 6 of them have come under colins reign and have only lost one of our last 6 qualifiers against mayo last year, hopefully we get a home draw and kick off what should be a great weekend of sport in the county next saturday

    clare scorers

    Jamie Malone 1-04,
    Eoin Cleary 0-6 (0-2f),
    Ciarán Malone 0-2
    Gearóid O’Brien 0-2 ,
    Cian O’Dea 0-1
    David Tubridy0-1
    Pearse Lillis0-1
    Gavin Cooney0-1
    Kevin Harnett 0-1

If we draw Armagh or Leitrim, then I think they automatically get home advantage as they coming from division 3/4.

Great summary on today's game windy shepard henderson. One of the great things about this forum is the post-match analysis of games by posters here. I'd take more heed in what is said here then listening to the same nonsense and drivel over and over again by messrs Spillane, Brolly and O'Rourke on RTE. Fair dues to you wsh for attending today's match and giving such great detail. You can take so much from such match analysis from posters like windy.

What is clear is that Killian Roche is now on the periphery on the Clare panel. Shame as I thought he is a very good young goalkeeper. As windy said our midfield who were very poor against Kerry are still not operating at the level they are well capable of. But at least the strong performances of Cleary, Lillis and Malone today will give Clare fans hope heading into the next round of the qualifiers. Two more wins and we will be heading for the Super 8's. That in itself for a county of the size of Clare, when you consider the players that are not available to Colm Collins (his birthday was on today), will be the Cratloe clubman's finest achievement as Clare manager.

ah now come on if you seen some of my posts after hours it would make joe brolly cring :pac: , this is a great medium though to give an account on, in this case clare gaa , especially when there are so many characters from the county in the gaa media the real stuff bothering clare gaa people gets over looked at times

collins has done a super job with clare and has pretty much brought us to the next stage of clare football in which we are not over relent on just brennan and tubridy anymore , two or 3 young lads came off the bench again today and gave good accounts of themselves again , we are a long way off kerry or dublin but we are doing a hell of a lot more then some established football counties at the moment , the super 8s would be huge to qualify for but i would be just as happy to see us operate as a good qualifier side over the next number of years while maintaining a top 16 place in the league regularly

the super 8s could have a negative affect if we picked up another one or two heavy defeats with so many young players on board at the minute

yeah we will have to travel up to either county regardless , to the best of my knowledge though if say we get drawn against mayo monaghan kildare or tyrone who were all division 1 this year we have no guarantee of home advantage against them

Division 3 or 4 teams are guaranteed a home game against a division 1 or 2 team, first team out of the pot otherwise gets home advantage. It would be great to have the qualifier in the Park next Saturday night, be a great weekend of Clare GAA.

ideally a division 4 team would offer us a great chance of progression to the next round but i hope personally we get a shot at either monaghan or tyrone at home , because they are two teams i feel we could compeat with , to me that is the next level for us to aim for , we have consolidated ourselves as a division two team , we have won 5 out of our last 6 qualifiers over the last 3 years , its massive progress for a county that had struggled for the previous ten years but kerry mayo dublin ect have proven to us to still be a good 7 to 10 points better then us when we are on a good day,

the next stage for us has got to be to aspire and to be as competitive as the two teams mentioned above , so it would be good to see how close we are to them

    We got Armagh

Away to Armagh, great opportunity to get to a playoff for the super 8s,there won't be any pressure on the lads but it's never easy to go to Ulster to get a win

In fairness we have an excellent record up north for some reason , Also I expect descent support with the football feile on in Louth next week

Armagh are on the up and will be division 2 with Clare next year so there won't be a whole lot between then, home advantage is worth a couple of points but you'd hope that we'll be able to win this. Get over this 1 and I think we'd have a chance against any of the beaten provincial finalists

Will Keelan Sexton be ok for the next day? He got a nasty bang against the post late in the game yesterday

Clare will play Armagh in the Athletic Grounds at 3 next Saturday, hopefully the 1 less day recovery won't have a negative impact on Clare.
